Well, of course this won't stop you from posting whatever you want but this might at least help prevent garbage in these forums, but from what i've currently seen is that the forums are full of posts with ridiculous suggestions, unneeded nerfs and obvious questions which have been answered. Polls with unneeded options, and same threads over and over again (hair dyeing, cyrodiil lag, etc.).

Question these before you post:
How often the topic of this post is discussed?
If it is a poll, will it help ZOS in terms of statistics and research in order to improve the game?
Has a similar post been posted before, if it was, how long ago?
How helpful will it be to the community?

Don't get me wrong, i am not trying to prevent anybody from posting, but from the past few months the forums has been really repititive and full of crap.

If you are considering the statistical value of a survey posted of the forums you might be doing it wrong. The forum population is small enough I would imagine it is close to statistically irrelevant.

Next if you are posting your ideas in other people’s threads you are not forum warrioring properly! My ideas are always the most important. So it is very important that my ideas are at the top of the thread. You should consider yourself lucky that I did not make a thread about this right now!

You don't have to click on a thread if you don't like the subject. Maybe if they would fix the lag in Cyrodiil or give us the option to dye hair, people would stop making threads about it. What a novel concept.

Lettuce discuss the issue of format vs. content. If one's point is valid, should we endure a rambling, semi-corherent wall of text? Is a mostly pointless, or even flatly wrong, post given more influence if it is well presented?

All my opinions on ESO are based on the aesthetics of the first post I see advocating that viewpoint.

Perhaps part of the repetition we see in forum posts is the absolute lack of a response from the developer on their official forum page. Lag in PVP needs to be addressed, yes there are countless posts, some of them have 15-20 pages and the only response is from a MOD saying "Play Nice". I am not saying that responses from ZO$ would stop duplicate posts, but ZO$ needs to manage the forum. The official "Long Load Time" page has 30+ pages and hasn't had a post from ZO$ in weeks, I made a post that stated post 1.3.2 that the problem was back and worse than ever, my post was shut down and a link to the super long, basically dead post from back in Nov 2017. That doesn't help the situation. I know fixes take time, I understand that some/most/all are hard to fix, I get all of that, but your suggestion is to search the forums and if the issue has been addressed assume that ZO$ has it under control. I think clearly that isn't case. Perhaps we all just have it wrong, that the forums are here to communicate with ZO$, maybe it is just to discuss things amongst ourselves and have no presumption that they are listening, care, or are engaged.

If we didn't have the trashy threads I would have to be helpful and constructive ALL the time, I mean... that would be horrible!

It's better to have a think before creating threads, otherwise you can end up with ones which you'd rather you didn't do to the onslaught your thread gets.
Polls I don't think have to only be helpful to ZOS, but at the same time you should understand the point of a poll and be seeking the information it gives, not using it to validate your thinking.

You sure about that? I mean even on the first page the "Outfits Megathread" has 32k views. That's a pretty darn good number for any statistical analysis. And it must be fairly recent views as outfits only became a thing a week ago.

Now are the people who use the forum random? Well that's certainly not going to be true and will be filled with biases.

edit: and after flipping through a few forum pages I have found some threads with as many as 87k views.

edit 2 : you know what, after testing it appears you can inflate the number of views by visiting the same thread over and over. So I guess they are not unique views. Which is pretty lame. Maybe I will start a poll to see how many unique account use the forums. Is there a limit on the number of responses for a poll?

i wish that would work, but so many people don't include the subject of their topic in the thread title. i don't know if they're being "clever" or if they sincerely think that's how communication works after seeing so many clickbait links online, but too often on here there's no indication of the contents without clicking first.

The best thing to do with a unintelligent troll/nerf post is let it die a quiet death by not responding to it. If these posts are met with silence then they will disappear to the death that is known as "Not page 1" and will hopefully never be seen again.

That is assuming there are actually intelligent and thoughtful posts that are worth responding to...

If you are un-sure of the subject you can also decline to click on it.

My overall point is that every reader on here chooses whether or not to open a thread. I don't open most threads on here because they are either click-bait or something that has been discussed ad-nauseum like auction houses etc.

Another thing to take into consideration is that many people on here have just joined in the last couple weeks or months and may not have seen all of these subjects discussed to death 1000 times over.
