Endless quests

When I started playing this on release (Xbox) I literally picked up every quest/side quest I could find, as I did in previous TES games & other RPGs. However there's wayyy more quests in ESO & since I took a good 1/2 year break I've literally no idea where I'm up to on any of them.

Would you recommend trying to figure out where I'm up to with these & which are the important ones, or clear out all except the ones I know for sure are main quests & start a fresh?

I did this also on start, I did it all and had NO clue what was going on.

One minute i'm battling Molag Bal, the next i'm defending Devons watch from the Covenant, then i'm rescuing Guars!! I couldn't get it.

Way I explain it now :-

Main Quest - prophet stuff / harborage / fighting Molag
Alliance - you alliance, gives 2-3 skill points per zone (then you do the other two alliances in cadwells silver / gold)
Guilds - Mage / Fighters / Thieves etc
Side quests - picking flowers etc 40-60 per zone

If you a completer finisher do all like I did. but alts / new players I say ignore side ones

    Quick reply!

Yep would be a lot easier to manage on PC, issue on Xbox is when zoomed out to see the entire map you can't actually see where quests are - don't think it tells you which are main quests and which are side quests either.

Cheers for the link, I'll write down which quests I have and compare them, probably get rid of any quests which are low XP/reward also.

Not all side quests involve a map icon changing color from black to white. Some are in the wilderness. Also some of the quests required for various achievements, including the ones that unlock purchasable furnishings or titles, are side quests since they don't belong to any alliance main quest or the Harborage quests.

Yep I'm pretty much running around everywhere trying to reduce the 70/80 active quests I have. Can't follow any form of story & have no clue what I'm doing either.

Would you recommend sticking to just the main quest first then picking up on the others, or trying to form some sort of plan to do them all simultaneously?

What I like to do is generally keep my questing zone focused and generally driven by the alliance quest line. Most of the zones have a FG and MG quest in them while you're there and I'll generally do one or two of the Prophet's quests in each zone as I progress. I also make sure and grab all the skyshards and clear all the dungeons/dolmens/world bosses in the zone. Actual progress over the ground in each zone is generally 'guided' by the alliance questline which pretty much guides you through most of each zone.

That seems to work well in terms of keeping the number of active quests under control. I think there is a limit of 25 quests in your log and, while doing this progression for a new character I rarely exceed a dozen quests in the journal at a time.
PC NA(no Steam), PvE, mostly solo

Yep when I started I made a character in each class & picked up every quest available over multiple zones as I came from RPG's rather than MMO's so like the exploring aspect.

Just deleted all characters but 2 (one tank crafter, one stamblade) & abandoned all side quests & will focus on these mainly then branch out if required.

Cheers for the advice and guidence everyone
