Wrothgar expansion for Pact (Or AD?) Players - Continuity

Hi everyone,

I'm curious on other people's take on the flavor/continuity of the Wrothgar/Orsinium expansion content as a non-Covenant character. I personally really chafe against things that seem out of character for my character to do, and thus have not done Cadwell's Silver, for example, because after all the horrible things the Covenant did to the Pact during that storyline, I don't see how my character would help them/not go on a murderous rampage when she's teleported into the middle of their city. Similarly, she has not joined the Dark Brotherhood because she generally considers herself a good person. I'm sure one /could/ come up with some kind of rationale, but it just didn't jive with the personality I'd developed for my character, and that continuity is pretty important to me in my enjoyment of the game.

That said, the Wrothgar stuff looks neat, but runs into the same problem. I just can't figure why my Pact character would accept an "invitation" to go schlep around with the orcs in the snow. I'm thinking I might just have to make a different character to go try that content out, but my main with all of my fun toys (i.e. my really fast mount) is the Pact character. So I'm curious if, without spoiling the Wrothgar expansion for me, anyone could offer possible reasons why a Pact member could put their hatred for/grudge against the Daggerfal Covenant, and by extension, the orcs, to go and help them. My character is a generous/compassionate person, but the DC did /awful/ things in the Pact story, and that's hard to forget. (btw, I'm aware that the Pact does bad things in the other stories, too. I'm speaking strictly about the character's perception/views here. I have no intent of arguing that any faction is more or less in the wrong/right in the conflict lol).

As you can see, the story/RP aspects of things are really an important part of the game for me, so if that's not your jam, I understand. I'd really like to hear from people who may have encountered this themselves, though, and any constructive input/thoughts would be welcome.

My Pact Vestige had done Cadwell's Silver and Gold as if she were already known as the Vestige and was serving as a very heroic troubleshooter for Emeric and Ayrenn for stuff that were rather serious threats to Tamriel and not merely their faction. (My Vestige doesn't really like daedric princes or liches or necromancers so I did the faction quests like she was doing them a favor, not serving their faction) So it wasn't a big stretch for her to answer the call of some orc king.

When you join the darkbrotherhood, only kill non Nords, Dark elves and Argonians. In Orsinium they say in a letter that they do not fully support the covenant and won’t have Covenant soldiers in Orsinium. There are quests in DC where you fight the dominion. You could also only do the quests that won’t support the Covenant in the war, you could just go around helping the NPCs and ridding the necromancers

They do say they don't want the Bretons and Redguards there, but the orcs were still part of the Covenant and still did a lot of awful things to the Pact. I totally get the idea of helping the civilians but ignoring the faction itself, but it still seems a bit of a stretch to answer the call of a leader who was part of what my character views as essentially the Axis powers. Ok, so it's Mussolini who's broken ties with ***, still not exactly a fan of the guy. XD

I personally really disliked the idea of Cadwell's Silver and Gold as a concept, it just felt so contrived. I've seen other users comment that it feels like their characters lost their identity in doing those and that really sums it up. I don't want to have my character randomly decide to help her former enemies just because there's a quest to do so, y'know? Like, if these were different orcs from those that were in the Covenant that'd be another thing, or if they totally disavowed the Covenant and were reaching out for aid, maybe I could see it. But an "invitation" of like "hey, wanna come do this work for us?" seems a bit too flippant. Again, this is speaking from how the character perceives things, not who's actually in the right/wrong in this scenario.

I mean, there is a whole side quest in Wrothgar involving a Pact ambassador, attempting to woo them out of the Covenant peacefully on behalf of Jorunn and Almalexia. So it's not IMPOSSIBLE to say that a member of the Pact would go to Wrothgar in an attempt to gain good standing with the King.

It's VERY out of the way and completely optional, though, so it's not part of the main story.

Playing as an Orc who's with the Pact, my character has a very dim view of the Covenant already, but wishes to at least meet Kurog. Mostly to see what kind of Orc would be so willing to accept the "gift" of his destroyed homeland given back by our enemies...

But you get to meet up with Rigurt the Brash again, so its totally worth it

Hmm....hmmm....that is a good thing to know. I have already had some sort of head canon alterations to my character's story, for things that Bethesda sort of leaves out. For example, my character is Imperial, but that's never acknowledged in dialogue etc even in the Imperial City DLC. So when I do quests like said DLC I always sort of reimagine the dialogue where she's more passionately interested in freeing her homeland from the Daedra rather than taking it for the Pact, etc. Similarly, being a vampire character, (coldharbor, main story quest spoiler: ......actually I can't find a thing to hide spoiler text, so I'll be as vague as I can about it), there was that quest in Coldharbor where you fight vampires and are generally rather...aggressive towards them. But my character being one herself, that kind of made no sense, especially with the questgiver NPC bad-mouthing vampires right to her face. So I sort of again had to fudge it in my head, like maybe she'd already tried to reason with them and then they attacked her anyway because they're too directly under MB's influence, etc. etc.

So similarly if there's already a Pact ambassador, maybe I could say she got the invitation and initially blew it off in disgust but then was approached by said ambassador who persuaded her to try to help woo the orcs to weaken the Covenant, and potentially pave the way for less war overall. That could begrudgingly get her to help.

....these are the kind of mental aerobics I do with the story when I don't quite like what Bethesda has done but still want to play the game :P Think it silly if you will, but I like this kinda RP/storybuilding stuff. Maybe I should find an RP guild....

That name sounds familiar but I'm not placing it....is he from the Pact story or somewhere else?

Yes, he's the Nord you meet in Mournhold trying to understand Dark Elf customs, where you help him out via a quest. Emphasis on "trying".

He's a good guy, just a little clueless.

lethally removing the King of Orsinium and replacing him with someone with no ties to Emeric

Plus there were all those Altmer pilgrims going to check out the Trinimac cult; someone had to keep an eye on them and make sure no one was using them for sacrifices or something.

The good part of maining a Telvanni is that you don´t care really about politics. You just travel discovering things and getting the most experiences of your journeys.

It was pretty easy for me too. Having been stomped, suppressed, and razed time after time by the other Covenant races, it was easy to imagine that most of the Orcs of Wrothgar hate the Bretons and the Redguards as much as I do. My character definitely didn’t feel like she was helping the Covenant.
