Please add a food icon to UI

In ESO there is nothing more infuriating than food going down in combat without realizing it. Please add a red food icon to the UI just like the weapon charge / armor repair indicators. Some UI code monkey could add this on a Monday before he even gets his first cup of coffee am I right @ZOS_GinaBruno?

How would this be done though? When those things (armor/weapons) are broken or needing charge I can understand how an icon could come on. but with food, the default is no food so you'd get an icon when you have eaten it? Also, it is on the buff timers so that has it covered for me.

The default is no food, but food provides the single biggest combat advantage of any piece of your build. It's 100% necessary to keep up. Much more so than weapon enchants or even a piece of gear that may break.

Yes of course, I understand and agree, unless it's trash mobs in overland I usually don't play without food active. But my question would be the "programming logic" or how to implement it. Currently, If the default is no food, that would mean that when there is no food buff an icon would be on at all times. That might seem strange to a new player for example. Unless youre thinking, if a food buff was recently active, then an icon could be displayed temporarily to inform you it ran out. Otherwise I might say the buff timer would seem more efficient.

Maybe it would only display the indicator while in PvP areas or dungeons/trials. Should still be easy enough to implement.

If you use the in-game buff indicator and have long-term buffs active, you'll see how much time you have left on your food including a countdown at the last minute. That's how I keep track.

FCO Starvestop - install it, set up any options you prefer, forget about it.

I have it set so when my food is about to expire it places the chosen slot into my Q, then after activating it it switches back to my preferred potion.

Long before something like this should be added to the default UI let's get an official minimap. Good grief already. Purists who proclaim it will muddy the UI - have it set OFF by default then.

I won't mention how Consoles would benefit from this along with Lorebooks and Skyshards addons incorporated into the default UI. Sure without it they are encouraged to explore, but again Purists can disable the "features".

Just turn on your Long Term Buff Indicators, then you will see your Food Buffs and how long they have.

There, your coding request is done.

Sure enough, I also place the buff bar element directly above my health bar. (using Azurah)

In the good old MMO time f.e. EQ2 there was a point in context menu when you click on the food. "Reuse when run out".
Why also not here in this game? This is also hardware independent.
<ironie> Oh I know, the game must do this check and this will cause loading screens, diconnects, etc.. </ironie>

Seriously? Because you can't just look at the food buff icon which has minutes remaining on it between fights? Or because you don't have long-term buff icons enabled for whatever silly reason?

EDIT - I remembered that console players do not have Minion. PC players, however, can search for the string "food" and find that the very first add-on adds that very self-same icon the OP is asking five minutes before food runs out. END EDIT

I see you switched from Xbox to PC. So you can use a number of addons that track food usage among other things:
http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info655-Srendarr-AuraBuffampDebuffTracker.html (will display food icon on screen)
http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1355-RaidNotifierUpdated.html (will display warning about no food active in trials)

On PC I use a buff tracker - if I only played PvE it wouldn't be a big deal, just one check for food before each dungeon/trial. It's really PvP that makes this necessary since it's more non-stop and long-lasting action.

Seriously though, why would anyone be nay-saying this suggestion. I don't hear anyone campaigning against the weapon/armor charge indicators that are already in game. Food has a much greater impact on combat than both of those things combined, so why not?

Its already in the base game UI. Just enable the in game buff tracker and activate long term buffs. You'll see a counter for your food buff.

there are many addons that do exactly this. Some more simple than srendarr's. I use one that causes it to show up as a red icon next to armor/weapon repair notification.

The health bars shrink when it runs out if you're using the default UI.

Otherwise if you're using add-ons any buff tracking one should provide this for you including the core in game buff tracking.

I ampretty sure the same guy makes the horse training reminder but I can't remember the name, nor find it at a glance in my addons list. will get back to ya if i have it.

Edit: the other is called ScootworksMount. The only issue I have with them is that it's not easy to change their location, so I wound up having to use Azurah to move my skill bar/armor/weapon reminder around them. works out pretty well though

I think many people turn long/permanent buffs off.. Also the buff bars aren't active by default, some people may be unaware. iFrankly, t's not the same, imo not nearly as good having a relatively indecipherable image that's 1/8th of an inch in length and height, vs an indicator that is unmistakably shaped like food, bright red so it stands out, and goes next to the other indicators (weapons/armor)

And I can't speak for others but I turn the stat-bar-length change off. It's unsightly, as I specifically set my UI up to be symmetrical and not look like crap.
