Uneven leveling

LillyMorgana
idk what else to title this. my boyfriend and i both play, usually together. i'm level 95, he's level 155. Yesterday we played for a few hours, i started at level 70-something adn he started at level 153. you can see the uneven leveling. we both had no xp buffs and both had enlightenment at the same time. What would cause such uneven leveling? he grinds and grinds sometimes when I'm not online and gains a level. then if i'm on for the period of time, i up 3 -4 levels. he's extremely frustrated. sometimes i get frustrated too because i'm leveling up faster than i can keep up with materials and such. any ideas?

You need less XP to get champ points than he does so you'll get them faster.

    You're talking about Champion Points?

If so, every increase in your Champion rank increases the amount of XP needed for your next Champion rank. At lower CP you level them very, very quickly but it "stagnates" after you hit 100 / 150.

But still it should not be that big of a difference, just look at this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14l_K_29Hyj4cjuCAcbCdeGBtLAMRjdbNz78zS6kTjZc/edit?pli=1#gid=0

You should have made ~ 7-8 ranks and he ~ 3.

One thing is that there is a "catch up" mechanism where by you earn CP faster at lower CP levels than higher. However, if you are saying you got 25 CP while he only got 2 - yes, that seems a bit off. If you hover over the CP bar, it should tell you how much XP is required to get to the next CP. Try that and see if it is showing a big difference. If not, check the XP you are each getting for kills or quests and see if they are the same.

Thats not bad. I am CP861...I am lucky if I gain a single CP in a day now...and usually only if I run a random dungeon and a pledge...but I don't grind and never have either, its pointless after you get to 160 really, running a random dungeon and the daily dungeon pledges will probably gain him 2-3CP and takes maybe an hour or so with a decent group.

The XP gain should be the same, but the needed XP for gaining a CP increases as you get higher, and jumps by 50% after you hit the current cap.

The XP required for Champion Point gain is based on the following formula:

    (((x / (cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000) if x ≤ cap
    (((x / (cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000 * 1.5) if x > cap

Above cap the cost is 50% higher. Also dungeons and trials don't give much xp unless its the first time quest or daily random dungeon. On the other hand you can take an year long break from ESO and still be above cap.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
