Were your characters made slimmer by the Dragon Bones update?

Taller?! I hadn't noticed (or even considered) that, but it actually sounds kinda plausible. My characters look thinned out in a way that could be described as "stretched" or something, so I suppose as theories go that's not half bad. But if that were the case, I would expect their faces, necks, etc. to look... off. And to my eye, they don't. Just weirdly skinny legs and arms.

Too bad I didn't carve notches in the door frames as my characters were "growing up", eh?

P.S. - @Lysette, you didn't vote in the poll! My super scientific research data! Noooooo! D:

Yeah I didn't vote, because I see this effect just in "screens" and not inworld itself - my characters look ok when I am playing in the game world, just the login screen and other screens like when I want to select a different hairstyle, it is out of bounds. Or when I compare in the character selection screen how tall my characters are in comparison to their mounts.

So what is the correct answer for my impression then - it depends - and that is why I didn't vote.

Yes, my toons have been slimmed down
I don't think is is a resolution change so much as a perspective change, like the one you get going from wide angle to telephoto. As you go from a wide angle zoomed out to a telephoto, people look slimmer. Remember that if you want to take a flattering photo. I think they gave more of a zoom effect.

It is most noticeable in the character select, less so in game.

Now, I wonder if the Chargen has this same effect now.

Mostly I was just poking a little fun about you not voting in the poll, but I do appreciate what you're saying. Strange that your perception is only present in screens, and not in-game. I really wish that was the case for me. Thanks for sharing! :)

I so wish I had "before" pics, truly. Since all I could supply is after-the-fact pics, I don't feel they'd be helpful, and I know I'd be opening myself up for a barrage of "you obviously just made skinny chicks" remarks and whatnot. But I understand why you want screens of this phenomenon. Kinda wishing someone else had some to share, myself, too.

Yes, I've noticed this with my Khajiit male main (I haven't played my other characters enough recently to notice a change with them) he has been wearing a chest piece that shows his arms for a while now and I've noticed his arms are a lot scrawnier. Stripping him naked - same scrawny arms. I also haven't used the outfit system yet.

If I recall correctly when I made him his body slider was all the way to the right somewhere between muscular and thin a bit more on the muscular side. Can't remember the advanced body sliders. Now his arms look very disproportionate to his wide torso and I'm the type of person who will re-roll a new character if something looks slightly off to me after getting out of character creation so I feel like if it was an old thing I would have noticed it earlier.

Now, I wonder if the Chargen has this same effect now.

I think I get what you are saying, but if that were the case:

Wouldn't you expect faces, objects, and pretty much everything to have that sort of compressed look all over, not just in the limbs?

Wouldn't the effect only apply in the vertical dimension, then? Like if (let's be honest, WHEN) my character dies, and they're unceremoniously splayed on the ground, I still notice the stick limbs... shouldn't they look fatter when I go from vertical to horizontal, if it's a perspective thing?

FWIW, I've made exactly one character since the update. Since she's new, I don't have that familiarity with her to be able to glance at her and instantly notice long-time features suddenly being different, BUT she looks just about the same as when I finalized the look in chargen. Aside from the normal difficulties in telling how your character looks in-game vs chargen screen, all is "normal".

I'm sorta right there with ya; the character mattered enough to me to get right the first time. Most of my characters were made, deleted, and made again with tweaks when I first created them. I wanted to get them right, and I have a decent eye for proportion. Not flawless, but good enough that I know I wouldn't have kept a character with such "wrong" limb proportions. Now they're different, and though it's subtle enough I questioned my sanity when typing some of these posts, every time I look at them I know something's off now.

    [Snip]

On some level, I agree. This is all so unimportant in the bigger picture. Not even talking about real world stuff; even in ESO, there are bigger fish to fry. People probably need to be able to swap bars or trust that their gear isn't being eaten by malevolent chests in their own home. This character appearance issue doesn't BREAK anything, per se.

On the other hand... They charge real money for changing the appearance of your characters, and I (along with many others) have paid more than once to get our characters how we like them. Kinda feel slighted to have them forcibly changed to a look we're unhappy with. The tweaks I bought the appearance change tokens for were less offensive than this skinnifying of my characters.
I see a lot of yes. Not good

The Poll shows an almost overwhelming majority don't see it, and a good portion of them think the ones that do see it are just imagining things or whatever. That's the part that has been most surprising to me.

@lordrichter, thank you! I won't ask too many questions as to how you got these...

I definitely appreciate the effort that obviously went into getting these two pics as similar as possible.

To my eye, the second pic does look a little bit slimmer maybe, but lighting and angle/posture differences make it rather hard to tell. The legs seem easiest to compare, since they don't move as much as arms (since arms are obviously going to be thinner/thicker from a even a slight frontal/side view). Either way, the difference between these two pics is slight enough that I'd probably not notice, and if I did wouldn't likely fuss over it.

Characters that were more slim to begin with (my tall and formerly-just-shy-of-skinny High Elf lady, for instance) seem to have been given the thin end of the stick, moreso than ones that were on the healthy-to-larger end of the scale.

Also, for what it's worth (next to nothing, I realize), the Imperial woman in the pic is/was a bit thinner than mine, and I can't readily notice any changes to her without wondering if I'm placebo-ing myself into it. Aside from different color hair, and maybe 10 more pounds on my lady, they'd be twins! Makes me wonder if / how much race plays a role in all this, given they all have slightly different body types at base.

Not sure if this will help much, but at one point in the past I was doing pixel measurements to determine my character's in-game height using a rope to measure. I took the same measurements today, and for my male orc with mostly maxed sliders (see my earlier template screenshot), I found no change to height or overall body proportions when I overlaid them in Photoshop. A friend of mine was wondering if their legs were skinnier, but couldn't be sure. Mine appear to be as they were before patch, though.

So at the very least, this doesn't seem to be impacting male orcs, or at least not with sliders set at max.

    I don't know about "slimmer/non-slimmer".

I do know that for female Mazzatun light armour chest (Ancestor Silk, see here: https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/mazzatun-ancestor-silk/), the little talisman thing hanging off the back of the metal ring in the back now clips through the back itself whereas it hadn't before (not for me, at least).

Which suggests that something was changed. But I do not know what that something is, precisely. I do know that the whole clipping thing is clearly very low on ZOS's list of priorities because there is a certain pre-One Tamriel hair style that still clips into the body and back out when you ride or run...

I noticed this today when trying to find a new style for a couple different characters. Most noticeable on my wood elf.
