So I can log in without my steam credentials, why can't everyone who plays through steam?

I've talked to a lot of people and have found that those who purchased through steam more recently than myself (mid 2015 ) aren't able to login without steam.

I personally have never had the issue. After buying the acct through steam I had to register the account and the account is more than capable of being logged in through the .exe when not launched through steam.

So I guess my question is why, ZOS, did you feel the need to further restrict players who DID purchase the game through steam? It's clearly a better system to give those who did the option.

    I think there’s a notable difference.

Those who purchased from ZOS prior to Steam selling the game directly.

Those who purchased directly through Steam outside of the ZOS website

Then variables of how ppl choose to launch the game and what folder this or this is in. I recall ppl doing stuff to play their game via Steam who didn’t buy from Steam....when that was added, there are a few FAQ articles on the Steam vs Non-Steam situations.

I purchased from ZOS directly just before PC launch. Co-worker of mine picked this up on a Steam sale directly from Steam.

Co-worker has to do some extra stuff that I never though of on PC.

*Im on Xbox One now tho but just giving context to some people’s situations.

Right, but I purchased the game from Steam directly.

But I am still able to run the eso.exe and log into my game with the login credentials that I obtained upon activating my game account.

Because they changed the way it logs you in on 11/16/2016. If you bought through steam and linked your account to the Edo website you can run edo64.exe. If you bought after that date you are shafted. I bought it 3 days after that ofc.....

Yes, that was my understanding. The point of my post was that these changes were baseless, needless, and have only served to add further complication to the game for people.

The system as it was? Prettymuch perfect. If Iw anted to I could run the game through steam, which I normally did-- But in instances like todays, where something is amiss with steam, or on the off chance that steam is down? It did not prevent me from playing my game.

Again, that was my entire point: Why on earth did zos feel the need to implement this login restriction? It's 100% asinine.

I only linked my account to Steam a few months ago. I can run through eso64.exe just fine. Up until now I've been using the old Steam-only authentication method. They changed the way it logs you in again later with Morrowind.
