Why do you want to wear it if you want to hide it? I am not judging, just curious about something I do not understand.

Many people wear the Guild Tabard not because they get to show off the symbol of their guild on a visible tabard on their outfit but because wearing the tabard adds your Guild Name to your Name Plate.
So my nameplate for one of my characters looks like this where Akaviri Exchange is the name of one of my guilds.
Pratorian Varanis Arano
<Akaviri Exchange>
When you wear a costume, the guild tabard is hidden, which is great if you want to show your guild pride (especially in PVP) but you don't want to show off the tabard (which, no offense to any of my guilds, but I think the tabards are kind of ugly).
Furthermore, several of the new motifs have graphical issues with Guild Tabards. If I wear my tabard with my Pillar of Nirn from the Dreadhorn motif, my chest piece turns black.
First of all, it's really nice how [snip] made the new outfitsystem. I can finally wear the Armour I wanna wear, in the way I wanna wear it... But what borders me personally the most, is that im mostly wearing costumes becasue i wanna wear my guild-tabard. The guild tabard is sadly visible above my armour, so I will continue with wearing costumes. I wish there would be a option to turn off the tabard, so you can only see the guildname but not the tabard itself. If there is already a option for that i would be really happy if someone could tell me where I can find it. I spend already hours with looking for it, but never found it. That's [snip] in my oppinion.
with lovely wishes, a sad constumer

I think I understand you. So you're wearing a stuff to represent your guild, but you don't want others to see it. I understand. Wut?!
Nah, seriously. The guild tabards were implemented for those, who are proud of their ingame communities (guilds). The way they can show this enthusiasm was that they were able to wear the guilds' "colors". I am proud of my social guild. It was even a lame decision from ZOS to not make me able to wear a costume and show our tabard at the same time. Now it's resolved (except I don't wear a real costume "just" an outfit). Nvm, I'm more than satisfied with this system now.
