I was thinking about how awful it was that one can't dye the various quivers that appear with the various bows (because I wholeheartedly hate the color of rubedite), and it got me to thinking about the possibility of having these as items for our "paper doll"; to perhaps occupy the offhand slot while using staves, bows and other two-handed weapons.
Adding these items would not only alleviate the issue of having ugly quivers (since they'd be a piece of "armor", they would naturally be alterable with dyes) but it would also allow for people to utilize a tertiary full set bonus without being pigeon-holed into playing sword and board/dual wield.
They could simply count as another piece of "armor" in the set, providing the trait and set bonuses, as well as perhaps enchantments, while providinglittle-or-no actual defense, ( akin to the way a shield is armor that goes into the weapon slot sans heavy-tier defensive stat) but perhaps slight buffs to the weapons which are stored. Maybe these particular items could even have unique traits/enchantments? Who knows, the possibilities are pretty vast.
It could be varied per weapon; like swords having a sheathe/scabbard, which could provide a small buff to the damage output of the sword (perhaps it is a "sharpening" scabbard? further increasing crit or w/e) bows having the quiver which could allow for an increased rate of fire for light/heavy attacks, or maybe one which further enhances bow users already typically high mobility
axes and maces might be affected by chains (not an unheard of item attachment to weapons in fantasy games typically to prevent a fighter from losing their weapon/being disarmed, and allowing for absurd area-of-effect attacks, but being suggested by me because I can't think of what a maul/ axe might use in lieu of a sheathe.. straps and scabbards are all I could come up with)
As an aside I'd also love to see the weapons remain "sheathed" at my side/on my back even while not currently equipped. I'm not trying to say saying that inactive, however equipped items should effect set bonus totals, or stat bonus totals -- just that it would be nice to see them on my character model despite not being actively equipped. Although this does pose problems for two handers, namely bows and anything else. Two handed sword and a bow would likely clash and look kind of silly.
Oh, and crossbows. Give us crossbows. A higher dmg, lower rate of fire alternative to bows in their current state would be fantastic.
