How do Synergies work?

I’m hoping some folks can clear up the confusion with this aspect of the game.

Here’s the way I “currently” understand them:

1. Someone tosses something you can synergize. However, only one person can use the synergy.

2. I’m not sure how the cooldown works. But I know I can activate varied synergies one after another.

3. Benefit from synergy


So my questions are:

-How does this 20 second synergy cooldown work? (Is there a cool down just on activating the SAME synergy (like shards, perhaps not being able to synergize a shard except every 20 second when THAT particular synergy is on cooldown for you?).

-Can more than one person activate the same synergy, or are there some you can and some you can’t?

-What else am I missing?


Greatly appreciate, and hopefully others will too, in clarifying on this works. Thanks!

    I'm far from an expert, but as far as I know:
    1) Cooldown is on activating the same synergy - orbs and shards are shared, but most other things are separate.
    2) Some synergies can be activated by more than one person (Purify from Templar Cleansing Ritual), many cannot.

    Since the synergy system is being updated with this patch, it's been in the PTS patch notes and I expect it will be summed up with the live update patch notes as to where it all ended up.

    Ah okay, thanks very much for the answer. That makes sense now, since I can’t grab shards/orbs right after another. Didn’t realize about purifying. I’ll have to look up what others have multiple synergies.

    Blood alter will have no cap next patch like purifying ritual. Blood alter Will heal you for either 40% health or 65% health depending on which morph you have. Will definitely be worth running

    Do you know when the synergy procs for it?

    Cooldown is 20 secs and 1 sec in between usage of a different one.

    Some synergies work differently. Like bone shield you used be able to be able to have 100% because it effects nearby allies. But now if synergy is used on you it's tied to universal cooldown.

    No idea, wish I did, I use it all the time now on my warden. Lasts for 33 seconds and is great.
