Are chapters within a motif evenly distributed

I do the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood dailies...daily. Not because I need the motifs, but because I really like sneaky quests and certain maps/objectives of these dailies still give me a challenge. And I do get a lot of motifs. That said, I wear costumes on all my characters so I've not really been concerned with which motifs I have...until now. With transmog coming, I went back and checked which TG and DB motifs I have learned or saved.

I've received 70 TG motifs and have 4-6 of every motif in the bank or learned on a character...except 2. Of the 14, I've never pulled two of them but have pulled 4-6 of all others.

I've received a whopping 109 DB motifs and have 5-10 of every one...except 2.

The two I'm "missing" (I've since gone out and bought them to learn) are different for TG and DB but it struck me as odd that the distribution is so close to even for both motifs and that both have 2 that seem much rarer.

Is this consistent with other motif chapters or just that wonderful RNG?

You'll only get anecdotal evidence from the players who hardcore track every drop they get. ZOS will say it's RNG, of course. Like dungeon sets, purple jewelry, and countless others, motifs most likely fall into the heavily weighted RNG that decidedly favors some over others.

I wish we could at least see a statement from ZOS acknowledging that RNG is, in fact, weighted in many aspects, but I have a feeling they'll always stick to their guns and just give the generic "well that's RNG for ya" response.

I remember somewhere that certain pages were rarer than others. I cant remember where i saw it or who said it. That is my impression though. It seems I get more of some pages than others but I don't have any hard data to support that.

Ugh I am missing so many DG, TG motifs its not even funny - heck I haven't gotten furniture items from them either. But this at least gives me hope that it can be done - thank you for sharing.

Yeah, it would be nice to know. Not from ZOS -- they'll never tell -- but from others who have tracked it.

Even though I've got the gold to buy any motifs I want, I'd prefer to pull them. But if it's generally found that certain pages are far rarer than others, I'll stop hunting them once I get to the point where I've got the others and just buy the missing ones.

The short answer is, "no."

Some pages are rarer than others. With Akaviri and Militant Ordinator, there's two distinct tiers of rarity. Those tiers seem to also exist with dropped pages. Though the exact drop rates aren't known.

With some motifs, specifically Ancient Orc, Assassin's League, and Outlaw, no one drop source has every page (though, I assume, they can drop the book), so in those cases the distribution really is uneven, depending on who you were farming.

Motif chapters are more than likely on rotation, with these type of chapters. I have had some luck changing the time of day, I did these dailies to get the chapters that I was missing.

Chest, swords, staves. Stick a "maybe" on daggers and heads.

I would say no, they are not evenly distributed. I make a living farming motifs and the big pieces always drop the least (for me).

I wonder if it's different for every chapter. I'm missing a different two from the TG than I am from the DB.

It wouldn't surprise me if ZOS says "Any 12 will be an 8% chance to drop. The other two will be a .001% chance." and the two lucky motifs are randomly picked.

But I'm just guessing at this point.

i strongly think there is an uneven distribution - depending on the motif you find certain chapters in stores much more often and at much lower prices therefore than others

Example: The Outlaw Motif...
The pages for Axes & Belts only drop from Syvarra of the Deep
Gloves and Daggers from Captain Virindi the Slave Taker
Swords, Chests, Bows,Maces & Boots from the Lich in Bahraha's Gloom
Legs, Shoulders, Staves, Shields & Helmets from Boss in Sharks Tooth Grotto.

So depending on the Motif, you have to know exactly where that page you are missing drops.
I learned this a long time ago beating my head on wall trying for a chest page to a motif only to find I was killing the wrong boss. No wonder it never dropped for me.....Lmao....

No, it's consistent. There are a couple that are reliably more expensive than the others. Like I said, chests, swords, and staves drop less frequently.

Beyond that RNG in ESO is very streaky based on something generated off your account. So it is entirely possible you're getting frequent drops of one or more rare pages. It's happened to me with a couple motifs.

Probably 8% for eleven, and 4% for the remaining three.

Patch notes from the release of Thieves Guild. Also Dark Brotherhood and Orsinium. Those three have the "splintered" motifs you need to farm from multiple sources.

but the actual "thieves guild" and "dark brotherhood" motifs all come from the daily heist or black sacrament.

Nothing in this game is pure RNG. It's all weighted against the player in order to get them to spend as much time as possible repeating the same content.

And weren't available when those DLC released. With those three DLCs, they released with a new motif (Ancient Orc, Outlaw, and Assassin's League), and items in new uncraftable motifs (Malacath, Trinimac, Thieves Guild, Abah's Watch, and Dark Brotherhood), then with the next major patch, they loaded the pages for those motifs into the game. (There's a few, (Minotaur, Dro-M'athra, and Order of the Hour, that were either added with those releases or later, but I can't remember.)

I know 3 is too small a sample size but seeing exactly the same trend on Assassin's League motifs.

Very quickly got to 12/14 but haven't gotten the last two in 30+ drops. And the two I need are the ones that drop in the delves, not from the WBs.
