QoL: Ear Holes in Hoods for Elves, Orcs, and Khajiit

For Races with much more prominent "Head Gear", Head coverings can be constricting. The "Ear bulge" in Hoods for Khajiit was a step in the right direction, but I suggest a version of Hoods that just cuts out the fabric altogether, so Ears can remain free.

This custom made Hood from an Armor Mod on my Skyrim character shows what the idea would be. Specially designed Hoods to allow space for the Ears to remain uncovered.

i would think that if they wear a hood, they dont want their ears getting wet, or ears revealed to let others know what their race is

Or chopped off if they're in combat. Agree with this.

what's the point of wearing a hood then if ears are exposed to the elements? At the very most I think ear "bumps" being visible on hoods because of khajiit ears for example makes sense. Skyrim and Oblivion khajiit ears are pretty pointy, but my ESO khajiit ears are pretty shallow

Don't like this idea. Was happy they added the little ear bumps for khajiits on hoods, but other than that, when you cover your head you want your ears covered.

Not sure about the hoods, but khajiit medium helmet doesnt make any sense. At all.

Care to elaborate a bit? I don't see how they don't make any sense at all

    Neither is Khajiit ones.
Some Khajiit has fur at the edge of the ears who make them look larger.

Note that if you wear an hood as Khajiit the ears make the hood sides stand out.
This is an very nice detail.

It completely covers chars ears. Anyone can just sneak on them and slit their throat or something.
Even regular headphones can block sounds to some extent.. Imagine wearing a solid leather helmet with thick coverings on your ears.
This is especially stupid since khajiits are cats and hearing is probably one of their strongest senses.

its an valid point but an issue with most helmets, note that Khajiit and probably elves has an benefit here, they could make holes in the side of the helmet holes who let sound in but you still have steel behind the hole.
An bodkin arrow would give you an ear piercing with an back story :)

If there was a setting or a new piece of gear to craft, i would be game! Tbh, there is still the larger issue of gear not meshing well with the character models, so I'm not sure if this would be priority.

In the mean time, you have the stahlrim motif to use. The medium helm has little ear tuffs for cats that look gorgeous

I would rather see my beard with helmets. Seriously, why does my two foot beard turn invisible with a mask? Most of them are just OVER the face, not even wrapping around the chin. Also long hair.

I think the point is that wearing hoods/hats whatever is so that one's ears are covered. The only exception I think would be reasonable is exposing bosmer/betmer/altmer/etc ears as a kind of fashion.

Anyway, it seems more absurd to suggest man ears have cutouts since man ears are the smallest, but IMO it's just as weird to for mer to have ear cutouts but men to not--because of the exposure to the elements issue.

Also, it looks like mer ears in TES are generally not big enough that a hood would cause much discomfort if at all. Khajiit at the most might have problems depending on ear size, but it makes more sense for khajiit to have custom style hoods to accommodate their ears. Ear cutouts just don't make sense outside of being a fashion statement.

I don't understand where all this importance over protecting the ears is coming from. The Hood is meant to cover the entire Head itself, not just the ears. Ears are nothing but skin and cartilage, exposing them to the elements isn't going to kill you, and they need to be unobstructed in order for one of your senses to function properly.

Like you said, Human ears are small and fit more easily inside head coverings, there's no need there, and of course aren't included in the title of this thread. Those Races with large ears are.

Khajiit specifically would have developed a sensitive hearing for their environment and hunting culture. Why would you want to muffle that out in the field?

Out of all the mer, only some khajiit at most would have large enough ears to warrent custom hoods, though.

I don't see how khajiit are any more a hunting culture than bosmer, orsimer, or even nords. I would think that bosmer have the best developed hearing because they specifically have a natural affinity for bow/ranged combat and, culturally, only hunt for food and other living resources, not khajiit.

Hearing is/was a big problem with armor in battle. Ear and head protection is more important than having completely unobstructed hearing, though.

It's not that exposed ears would kill you, but it's mildly to incredibly uncomfortable depending on the climate. Head protection is important to keep warm. Ears can still freeze and suffer something very dangerous like frostbite, like other parts of the body.

God no. Most elven ears arent even long enough for that. Its not like the TES races shares ear length with WoW elves.
