Good places with lots of containers?

I've been thinking I should try getting some rare recipes, but I don't know where to go.
Can you suggest me a few places with high(er) concentration of containers?

P.S. I assume the treasure hunter perk only applies to the usual locked treasure chests and nothing else, just like the description says. Right?

    Search in youtube for how to make money fast in ESO - there are a couple showing locations where those can be farmed quickly. The problem with hints like this is - once published, these locations might be getting over-farmed as well quickly.

    Edit: I found DLC regions to be quite nice for resource and chest farming.

    Seriously - ask yourself - if you would have found the perfect farming spot, would you tell everyone and his dog about it, so that they come and farm it empty and you find pretty much nothing there anymore?

    For recipes it shouldn't matter, as wardrobes and similar containers are instanced to the player not the world.

    For a long time I farmed the Hollow City - it doesn't have a huge number of containers, but it ISN'T marked stealing if you take anything from them.

    Also if you're looking for FOOD recipes specifically (as opposed to Furnishing) I've found it more convenient (although much longer time-wise) to just do Provisioning Writs every day.

    Drop by some of the 'humanoid' public dungeons. These are instanced and will always reload everytime you zone in. Places like chateau, manors will have lots of containers for you to loot. It's easy to get a good farming build while looting all these places, adding to your coffers.

    Yeah, from my experience with it - 13 provisioning writs per day - it has about a 20% chance to contain 1 recipe in the box. One or the other ingredient in those boxes can be somewhat valuable as well, especially if they are part of a specialities recipe. I never encountered a really valuable recipe in those boxes yet though.

    I think the Pickpocket contents are shared too, but I don't recommend them for recipe hunting regardless.

    Recipes fall into loot tables that are fairly extensive and include lots of other types of loot, so you're chances of looting any recipe are already slim. Looting rare ones even slimmer. The only thing that works for me is consistency--consistently loot anything that might have a chance of spawning a recipe. There's no real location that spawns them more readily, and don't believe anyone who says so. If they got lucky in one spot, it's RNG and not that location.

    I remember when I started playing (before the justice system) and I would go through containers in a house and someone else was there too and I'd think "I can't believe they didn't loot this motif. Are they nuts?"

    Treasure chests/heavy sacks in the open world are not shared. Only if you are in a group instance (dungeon or trial) can everyone loot the same chest.

    OP: Hollow City has a lot of containers and is outside the justice system. As others have said, public dungeons like Vile Manse and whatever the pirate one in Malabal Tor is called. Any delve with lots of containers that is inhabited by humanoids. I remember DC having plenty of those.

    Its not all RNG like some claim. There are tricks to increasing your chances. In 2-4 hours of play i usually come across at least 2 purples and half a dozen blue recipes/patterns/blueprints/etc. Thats normal play so killing/questing/etc mixed in.

    Some of the more commonly known ways to increase your chances:

    * Level Legerdemain.
    * Level Thieves Guild
    * Your own level.

    Another tip: location does matter. Hews bane has slightly different loot tables than Auridon and Auridon has slightly different loot tables than Khenarthis Roost for example. Also the location within the location matters at least stealing wise. "Richer" areas tend to have better loot compared to hovels. Just like nobles tend to have better loot than beggars. You can still get some good loot off the "lower class" the chance just seems to be lower.

    I have figured out other things about increasing chances of good loot, but im not willing to share.

    Loot everything, especially in dungeons and delves. Though with dungeons, dont try to loot as you go with a group, they might boot you for it. If you have access to Hews bane/ thieves guild i find that most of the heists tend to be a good source of a lot of containers to loot. I typically get at least one blue in a heist. Sometimes multiple blues and a purple about 25% of the time.

    Also when you leave certain areas and come back the containers will respawn for you. All the containers in the game will respawn for you once you login again so if you logout for dinner or something and come back, you can run all those containers again.

    As others have already mentioned, Hollow City in Coldharbor has a bunch of containers and there is no stealing. The bank and the chapel are two places where you can find recipes and blueprints the most frequently. If you don't mind doing a quest, the Dwemer lab has containers inside and I get a dwemer motif about once a week out of there.

    Montclair manor in Rivenspire is a favorite spot of mine. Once you do the quests for that area, the building will not have any enemies inside and there are lots of containers there. Almost always good for a recipe or two.

    Hall of the Dead (public dungeon in Eastmarch) has tons of containers to find lots of stuff in as well. You do have to fight enemies for this one but the ratio of containers is very high to enemies you have to fight.

    1. Bahraha's Gloom delve in Hew's Bane (Thieve's Guild DLC)
    2. The inn in the Hollow City
    3. Scarp Keep and the inns in Orsinium (if you don't mind stealing)

    The containers are instanced. It's impossible for them to be "farmed out" and empty.

    Daily provision writs reward a recipe. They’re about 60% green, 30% blue and 10% purple. Each rank of writs determines which recipes drop (the more points you spend in the first passive, the higher the level of the rewarded recipes). Filling in holes in your recipe knowledge is easiest by having alts do lower level writs to earn these. It takes time, but it’s more efficient.

    If you’re searching containers, remember that your rank in provision and character level determines node rewards...so you are limited to what that toon can nab.

    If I’m farming for recipes, I tend to want to go places where there’s a chance of something else of value too. Like the creosote tomb in vvardenfell, where I might get a spendy morrowind furnishing recipe. I also like dweller ruins, where I can get valuable dweller motifs. Inner sea armature is good, or the one in south central Alkir (Aldunz?) Halls of the Dead public dungeon has a lot. Oh...old orsinum - MEGA pots there and bosses can reward ancient orc motifs.

    And in case you didn’t know, your character has a farming limit in place. When the containers start dropping nothing but lockpicks, you’re done for a while. I’m not sure what the timer is to reset containers...it’s not all day or anything, but once you’ve hit a couple hundred you’ll time out on drops.

    Places you can only get into if you have the quest for it are the best spots i found
    i forgot the name of the quest but there is a house in Deshaan you can only get into for a quest don't finish the quest in there just go in kill/loot exit /log to char select log back in and all items respawn
