I just woke up and had this question. I remember a while ago devs said they didnt want abilites with cooldowns. when balance issues popped up first they didnt want them.

so the question is........... is this the first of many to come? I cant think of another skill with a cooldown other than like building up to a skill like ulti or NB spec bow

just wondering and im bored

As long as the champion system is creating powercreep. more and more limitations and cooldowns will be added to skills.

More and more of your power will be sucked out of class skills, gear, and mechanics that have been around since launch to balance out CP.

The combat is in this game is much more immersive than in games like Guild Wars 2 because there are no cooldowns. But no cooldowns only work if you have limited resources, and actually have to manage them.

We haven't had a true resource management meta since 1.5. Back then regens were a lot less but there were other ways of managing them and since damage was also capped, stacking max damage wasn't the best way to build. But since we've had this high burst COD meta, we've had nerf after nerf. Only some form of softcaps and either a rework or complete removal of CP is going to stop the neftbat from continuing to destroy class skills.

There is already soft cooldown on dodge roll and bolt escape. Ineffective, or perhaps semi-effective only against builds that do not allow too much rolling/bolting in a row to begin with, but still.
Why whip though? I can imagine abilities more ripe for some nerf to chain spam. *looks at cloak*

I understand why they did it. its just the cooldown is probably the worst thing they could have done and if more abilities get cooldowns like other MMOs im gone. personally I love the combat system in this game and its really the only reason im here. the lore and PvE content is top notch but after I did it for 2 years im only here for pvp

PLEASE DONT ADD MORE COOLDOWNS TO SKILLS THIS WORRIES ME!!!!!!!!!!!

It isn't a cool down like what people think, where you can't use the ability for 3 seconds. You can still use whip, you just don't gain the bonus of powerlash.

You can still use any ability at any time. You just can't get a proc for a replacement ability more than once every 3 seconds. How is this any different from only being able to use a spectral bow every 5 light attacks? Or only getting a insta-cast frag from casting other abilities? What about channeled abilities that don't have any damage until the end of the channel? Or a heal that you have to charge for 1.2 seconds? Or a skill that only damages targets at the end of 6 seconds or 3.5 seconds or after 12 seconds?

Would it be wrong to say that we have indirect cooldowns on many abilities? That is, they are unable to perform their damage or healing instantly in some form or another? It's not a cooldown in the typical sense, but it's not like you can't continue to flame lash whereas if I wanted to spam curse I have to wait 3.5 seconds or 6 seconds just for it to deal damage.

Not saying i agree with their design choices, just that the problem you describe isn't even close to abilities with cooldowns that prevent you from using that ability. Power lash is not a skill, it is a damage component of a skill. Remember that.

Now, where they ACTUALLY introduced cooldowns this patch is the fact that if you get interrupted while casting, you can't cast that ability for a short amount of time. (Can't think of the actual duration) I might be remembering that bit wrong so someone can verify it...

Still a cooldown on a skill regardless of how it is done. I understand it isnt basically a skill it is a proc but I just dont want to see more of this type of change to abilities and it worries me

Every since Paul Sage left Zenimax, i have never seen a class to take such a massive beating in terms of nerfs in almost all skills and passives and continue to do so till this day.

Adding the cooldown is just an insult to the class, but Zenimax is unpredictable and thanks to people [snip] and complaining about how they can not 2 button kill a player, or how someone survives their 3 auto proccing sets, it is a possibility that cooldowns will be slowly introduced, or not, who the heck knows who at Zenimax actually pushes and approves these pathetic changes.

They should play the game the way we, the players, do. Instead of watching videos and reading what casual players are posting (and i mean properly play the game on all characters both magicka and stamina not some half assed warden magicka/stamina hybrid build).

idk I think I kinda understand having cool downs on some things, maybe not the skill itself but definitely more the special effect it has.if there wasn't a few seconds between being able to spam any skill hitting at full power every time until our magic runs out, I don't think the combat would be as interesting as it is now. if you think about it using a dot skill is almost like having a cool down since you normally wait thoseseconds and let the dot hit before using skill again to reset the time.
