Wait 10 seconds, or do it in a "safe city". That is about it. They can't really have an option for it since the reason for the 10 seconds is to prevent people from logging out in potential combat situations.

What's the big deal with waiting 10 seconds?

It makes it take longer to quickly change alts. Yeah, it is only 10 seconds, but add to that the time it takes to get back to the character select screen, and then to load the new character, and it all adds up. It also seems to take twice as long, just because the person is in a hurry.

I see. So I guess they should make an option to log out instantly but keep your character in the instance for 10 seconds (similar to the option for quitting).

They could do that, I suppose. That seems to be what happens if you just quit, or ALT-F4, I think. Your character just stands there until the server decides you shouldn't be standing there anymore. I am guessing this could be quickly, like in 10 seconds, or maybe even longer than that.

If you ever quit the game like that and come back and your character is dead, that is probably why. Several times, I have noticed that food has counted down a few minutes while I am logged out. I can only imagine that I was just standing there doing idle animations for a couple minutes. I have tried to catch this using two accounts, but have not seen anything like it, yet.

Whether they can do that for a logout really depends on when during character load they place it in the instance. They probably cannot do that if the character is still standing there, and you can be sure that some people would be using that to quickly log out and log back in on the same character.

Interesting fact. Non-combat pets arrive a few seconds before the character does. Several times, I have come across a pet just standing there doing an idle animation, and a few seconds later, the character appears and runs off.

Having to wait ten seconds in a city seems to be random. When jumping onto a character that's parked at a stable just to raise its riding skill. I never know if the log out a couple of seconds later will be immediate or take ten seconds.

If you alt f4 without logging out, your character will be still in game till you will remove eso from task manager. (processess) That's why you can't catch it by second account, logging out puts your character out of the world instantly, but alt f4 still leaves eso on, just hidden.

Unless you’re doing something else too, the cities usually just log you out subject to maybe your cpu and gpu showing it.

Is it the server and zone you’re in having other issues too?

Your character will be standing in the game, he will stand for a minute or more before getting logged off.
This is so you will not get kicked out from having an short internet connection issue.

Now if you press quit now I guess the game will just log you out after 10 second or so, this can be tested with food buff.
As other says this is to prevent people from quitting rater than fight.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Mourhold is where I park my characters, theres no timer there. It was always annoying waiting the 10 seconds when I used to do writs in Belkarth, it might only be 10 seconds, but 14 characters who only log in for a couple minutes each, it turns into a lot of waiting for a timer.

I find the bug that produces an occasional error when logging out of the game on PC, and has done so since launch, only ever happens when you exit the game instantly in a city, so I'm always happy to take a few seconds to log out elsewhere.
