removal of weapon effects

Anyone out there who can tell me how to remove poison effects from a staff I have used a poison potion on. It doen't matter what weapon I put into the main hand slot the poison effect is transferred to thst weapon. Only way I can find round it is to use Main Hand Backup as main weapon slot

✭✭✭✭✭If you don't have a poison potion in the slot next to the weapon it shouldn't be giving the effect, unless the staff has a poison enchantment (which can be replaced with another glyph).
I am not 100% sure how poisons work but once they proc they apply for x number of attacks I believe, I am not sure if that effect remains until those attacks are expired even if a poison is removed from the slot next to the weapon.
