Warden Companion Patch

ezero2048
ezero2048
This isn't really an upgrade or anything. I just think it'd be better for wardens if they get to choose the beast they want to be with. For example i want to be a warden with a lion, some might want to be with a wolf and others might want some other beast. It could be an option in selecting the skill or it could be a skin for the bear. This is just a suggestion, it's not necessary to be added in the game

    It should depend on race:

    - Breton: Wolf
    - Orc: Echatere
    - Redguard: Duneripper
    - Nord: Bear
    - Imperial: Lion
    - Argonian: Crocodile
    - Khajiit: Senche
    - Bosmer: Snake
    - Altmer: Mudcrab
    - Dunmer: Bantam Guar

it would be nice if the pet was useful... the only thing its good for is hiding behind it in duels. open world and pve i find it useless but this is an awesome idea.

Hate that idea. Racial traits are bad enough. I definitely don't want it also determining what my pet looks like.

In principle, I think they ought to go further. That is, implement, say, 10 different skins, make five of them available to all players as default and the other five unlockable through the Crown Store. [More broadly speaking, I think they should take cue from Path of Exile and implement appearance change capability for a ton of skills and then sell the animations via the Crown Store - e.g. you want your Flame Whip to be made up of jet-black flame? That'll be 300 crowns, thank you for playing...]

From a technical standpoint, however, this raises a whole host of questions. Namely, how do you change the appearance of a skill? I mean, I suppose you could put the skill skins in Collections, that's easy enough, but then you have to have the actual skill reference that on cast to play the correct animation...I just think there are likely to be some technical tangles in there. Perhaps ones that ZOS will not wish to spend the manhours on resolving.

Tying the skin to race is sort of...ok, but then you have to account for race change tokens. Meaning, there ought to be a "race check" implemented at some point before the skill animation plays to make sure you don't use the Bosmer pet for a (changed) Argonian or what have you. Besides which, if you're spending the time implementing 10 (!) different pet skins for this one skill, you might as well tack on a skill-skin-changing system and sell the bloody things through the Crown Store to get some return on your investment (of developer time)...

What? No the Echatere carry our stuff, they are not the wildest thing in Tamriel.

A Welwa would be much better for the orc as a companion. Big, strong, wild...perfect!!

Lets point out that Almost all Animal abilities are centered on Morrowind wild life. Seriously, none of them are animals from other places. They are exclusively Morrowind themed creatures. Which is annoying when you are playing a Nord.

What if I was an Altmer, Orsimer, or Breton? None of those should be using Morrowind stuff.

Why is Warden primarily using Morrowind creatures when ZOS said that the idea and lore of Warden comes from Valenwood?

The option based on race route is one way to go. Maybe give the bear skin to look like other beasts.
BUT the animal abilities in general should have creatures from all over Tamriel. Wardens are connected to Nature, not Morrowind specifically (lore wise)

i am surprised they havent added new skins for bears. considering how they like money i bet they would sell.

How can she be shorter than average? I've yet to see a player made wood elf that's above minimum height.

What i think would be better is if the attacks such as cliff racer, would change based on the Zone you are in, so if like you cast it in morrowind yeah its a cliff racer, but if you say are in Bangkorai where they have you know issues with Crows…maybe a big'ole angry raven dive bombs.

Honestly, I disagree. For PvE the bear is worth a solid 2-3k dps over flawless DB and Ballista as long as the fight permits pets. It also has synergy with War Machine gear (though I haven't gotten to test TFS + WM, and WM+VO unfortunately is a loss)

This is as a stam build.

I wouldn't want my Bosmer with a snake companion. So just no. Altmer with a mudcrab, again just no.

If the skins would cost crown, that is a totally different issue as players would think that they're obliged to buy the skin with crown just because they want they're warden to look cool the race idea is good as well but there are some issues with it what if the player doesn't want the pet that is with the race he picked? So it would be best if players could pick from different beast choices

    P.S. just a suggestion ^_^
