Some people view ESO as a job and CP as a promotion for hours of labor put in. They want more power levels to separate themselves from casuals. Even though once you hit CP 160 you can pretty much blow through everything overland with prisoners and darkstride spamming your aoe magic ability, and CP is really only relevant in cyrodiil and trials, they want more power levels. Introducing a new system in parallel with or enhancing the current system to keep it interesting with CP as a commodity seems a good idea. I think players want power levels though for their CP in one form or another.
crown store $$$ would disagree.....
How high impact will an cp cap of 900 be assuming no changes?I have a sneaking suspicion that in, oh, a couple of years' time, we shall see another reform of the leveling system and general power levels. If nothing else, because by that point the CP cap will be pushing into the 900s (assuming a regular quarterly increase of 30), which is a big gap vs. both overland and where the "average player" is likely to be. [Not to mention that because of a limited number of "useful" CP nodes and diminishing returns, after a certain threshold every extra 100 CPs won't actually get you much, so where is the sense of progression?]
Until then, I doubt they'd change anything - and when they make the change, well...it is very difficult to speculate so far ahead of time, isn't it.
One thing I would support is - no, not exactly what OP is suggesting, but rather throw the high-CP players a bone in the form of an extra achievement (say, for reaching 1000 CPs), or a couple of titles (again, for reaching various ultra-high CP levels). In other words, something like the fishing achievement/dye, it's not really very much of a tangible reward for investing dozens of hours into fishing, but it is a reward for people to look forward to.

I thought of this a while ago. I think ZOS should institute a CP buyback program and then remove the entire system. That way people are payed for all their hard work and then CP can stop destroying the game via powercreep.

Then for levels 1-100 you can do the " level anywhere system" and then for level 101+ it switches more to a proven tried and true method of leveling.

Level 51 green gear was magnitudes superior to even level 50 purple raid gear. This meant that all previous content became instant easy mode, solo.
But that is a double edge sword as they seem to went the other extreme with ESO. Progression in ESO is so tiny, it feels like your treading water, not swimming. I mean gear levels down instead of you leveling up. If you are wearing gear even two levels old you get a penalty to it.
Then we have the whole CP system. I mean come on their are basically 690 levels, but very little progression. To add insult to injury and further belittle your progression, once that first character hits CP, he basically levels all other characters. As soon as you have one that hits 690 all characters just have the trivial task of gaining those first 50 levels. But they do so with everything all those CP gives them, again easy mode.
Their really is no level progression in ESO. The only real distinction is the ability to do certain things like trials and vet dungeons. Even gear only goes CP 160. So you have about 500 CP levels that is basically just polishing.
It would be nice, to have at least something to look forward end game. Because this game doesnt have an endgame. By time you reach 690 you pretty much already did everything meaningful. So their is no reason to keep going to collect CP that is going to take months at minimum you can use and in some cases years.
That is why i thought of the vet store. A reason to keep playing and gain CP. It can be updated with new stuff every so often and it wont be as hard to balance into the game as new content nor take as long to develop or even update between patches. It would give vets a sense of accomplishment because the store would only be accessible with CP. We could even make it interesting and make it that you have to burn your CP "maxing out" before you can spend extra in the store. When a new max CP is added to the game you have to put points in that before you can spend it in the store.
That way you have an achievement that is meaningful for being at endgame content.crown store $$$ would disagree.....
This would not be a competitor to the crown store. Most/all the items available would be exclusive to the vet store. If you could just "buy" the items, it would take the whole purpose away and that is you EARNED it. Besides ESO plus is the real money maker.
Y'know hacked accounts are a thing? Say if this was a thing and someone managed to log into someone else's account and character, and then spent ALL of their Champion Points effectively reducing them to a blank slate Level 50.
Or are you saying the amount of CP you can spend is limited to the excess you have past the level cap?

No. It just switches to a useless grind for gear every patch. As much as it's annoying with the CP endlessness, the One Tamriel system where the gear cap does not change and the mobs are not leveled is a lot better than the "tried and true" method.
