Stop putting roes in everything

At some point, ZOS saw that very few people were fishing. But instead of making fishing more fun, they just added a low drop rate crafting material to fishing as an incentive. I am not sure the problem is the low drop rate of roe so much as how long, dull, and boring fish harvesting is compared to harvesting any other node. See an alchemy node? Grab it in half a second. See an ore node? Grab it in half a second. See a rune node? Grab it in half a second. You don't need to sit there for 30 seconds, twiddling your thumbs, then hit E at precisely the right moment to harvest any other node. And those other nodes are everywhere, whereas fishing nodes are far less common.

I suppose this adds some level of "verisimilitude" to fishing. But it is a game, not real fishing. They need to speed fishing up and make it less tedious. Then people might actually stop at fishing holes they pass by, similar to other harvesting nodes.

I think the current fishing design was fine when it was just there to add a little flavor to the world and some achievements. But once they made it an integral part of the crafting system, the design needed to be brought more in line with other crafting nodes. You could leave the drop rate of the rare fish needed for achievements alone. But maybe do something like have every tug of the line that returns a regular fish return 4 or 5 fish? Or significantly decrease the time between casting and getting a nibble on rod? Something. Anything. So that fishing does not consist of so much dead time doing nothing and harvesting nothing.

ZOS why do you keep putting roes in every recipe like the Romanovs prefer their caviar blinis?

Only a very few of the woodworking furnishing recipes actually call for a Rosin, but every one of the provisioning furnishings call for a perfect roe. It is super unimmersive that it costs a perfect roe in order to make a mortar and pestle, or a mammoth cheese container. What happens with the roe? My character eats it while making the mortar? Roes are also the single most costly and rare of the gold components, far more so than alloys, rosin, wax and Kuta. And you also insist on putting roes in every gold recipe on top of that, like Orzorga's and Citrus Fillet. Only a small minority uses these gold foods, due to them being only a tiny bit better than regular purple and blue food that is vastly cheaper to make.
The master writ recipes that call for Orzorga's and Ambrosia already sit at half the price or less than all the other writs, due to them being far, far too costly to make because of the roe component.

Either put more roes into circulation, by increasing their droprate, or at least remove the roe cost from silly recipes such as mortar and pestle and mammoth cheese ..

As an avid crafter and long time player I agree that including them in these furnishings is dumb.

On the other hand it is a Genius move.

Why? well consider this... what does it take to go fishing in this game? bait, which is cheap and often free. there are no lvl requirements no skill points needed, no pots, no gear. Just Time. Farming Perfect Roe by fishing is the #1 recommendation that i give new players for earning gold, and you know what? it works. Also consider this. If i am maxed out on everything on all of my characters why would I need exp pots? Having P Roe as ingredients for furnishings makes sense so that long time players still need and consume the item. Though i agree that they can overhaul it a bit.

    Go fishing!

I already have every fishing achievement in the game and about 50 perfect roes in my bag. That doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, regarding the sillyness of perfect roe recipes.

You shoot electricity out of your fingertips at demons from another dimension, yet your concern is the unrealistic nature of crafting? Lol

Also, as someone who is an avid fisherman with little interest in crafting, roe is great for filling my bank with gold.

We also have a new recipe on the PTS for the bottled bonsai tree - which also requires a perfect roe!

Why are these even provisioning recipes to begin with? Mortar and pestle, bonsai tree and orcish skull goblet have nothing to do with provisioning whatsoever. Mortar should have been alchemy or blacksmithing, goblet woodwork or blacksmithing, bonsai tree alchemy or woodworking.

And for the love of Vivec stop requiring a perfect roe for every recipe that's gold!

And for the love of Almalexia double or triple the voucher rewards from those Orzorga/ambrosia writs - no one wants to do them! Or simply remove them completely.

Wait a moment. How does 1 exactly get a bonsai tree out of roe? What type of trickery is this? Especially considering that the roe of question comes from a fish. What part of the structure utilizes fish roe?

Well Asians put fish sauce in everything so not so strange.

Actually its Vietnamese to be more specific that put fish sauce into pretty much every food and also use it as a dip ;)

Shh. Don't reasonably logic this. I'm enjoying the terrible puns.

At least it's giving them some use in the game. Make some furnishing plans to include fortified ninrcrux so those are given some value again since they kinda suck atm

They had uses. As posts above state, the new uses mean the rarity is not appropriate for the uses.

I was trying to find the account of Chris Balser, the crafting guru who was in the most recent ESO live, to ping him and see if maybe he could take a look at the Roes in the Master Writ system and the gold furnishing recipes, and determine if they may need some changing.
But unfortunately I didn't find his ZOS account here.

    Go fishing!

If only it was that easy. I know if i farm 200 of any other mat, I'm more or less guaranteed to see 1 gold mat. Farming mats can also be incorporated into your journey from A to B. Fishing, I could stand there for hours, gut countless fish and still not receive a roe. I'm not exaggerating when i say I can regularly gut 400+ fish and get nothing but, well, FISH.

Considering the time put into catching fish and finding fishing spots, a 1 out of 100 chance would be more fitting and bring it more in line with other refining.

    Fish fileted: 15624
    Perfect Roe: 145
Calculated droprate: 1 Perfect Roe in 109 Fish.

Numbers courtesy of Votan's fishing mods.

    You're welcome.

IMO droprate is fine, but master writs requiring roe should definitely be rewarded with more vouchers to make them useful.

Agree, and the trolling writs of 10 vouchers for ambrosia, 2 roe... right.

Roe writs are the equivalent to Invigorating items... they want junk in the RNG pool.

... its provisioning. It makes sense for resource distribution and it makes sense code wise. Unless Im missing something, perfect roe is the only gold quality provisioning resource.

As someone who has well over 100 roes in the bank, who gives them by the dozen to friends as a thanks for help with some achievements, and who pulled 19 perfect roes in a single fileting session the other day....

    /bragging

...I still think it's really stupid to use roe in display objects.

I think the reason is that ZOS sees how much gold is in the game and desperately tries to get people to spend it. Be it legendary items for housing or the new outfit system, the intent is pretty noticeable.
