Health Focus for a tank

Trying to get the most out of my Templar Stamina Tank. My buffed Health is 36.8K
Is that about in the right area for a tank, or should I switch some glyphs, etc around to go for 40k?
Main job is Tank in Dungeons, both normal and vet, and I don't pvp (yet) right now at CP 227.
Thanks!

The reason why most endgame tanks run high health is because they build for veteran trials where more health is beneficial/needed and they are mostly DKs which scale very nice with high health. For Dungeons 30k+ plus is absolutely enough.

This is true, for the most part.

vHoF and MT probably MT on vAS can use more health than tanks used to run. Some of those that have become more accustomed to the fights and avoiding the heavy damage have scaled back a bit, but not everyone.

However, MoL and earlier fights did not really change so 30k health is fine.

What really happened was max stats were not as relevant as they were before Morrowind. Sustain became much more important. This permitted stacking more health which benefits certain skills like Dragon Blood and the DK/Templar shield. Templar works a little different than DK though, as far as stam sustain.

In the end, 4 man dungeons is an area you can get away with much for most of the dungeons. Your 30k is very much fine for what you are doing and the next step would likely be normal trials. You will be fine there as well.

Thanks. Yeah with even a decent healer over a long boss fight I can get punched in the face for a few million and never lose aggro. There are some mechanics that come close to one shotting me if I get rooted, so wasn't sure if I pushed 40k at the cost of stamina if it would be worth it, though I do a lot of solo, and the damage from my solo 2H style comes in handy.

You should be fine with 36.8K health for dungeons. If you aren't already at the damage resistance cap at 32-33ishK spell and physical resistance, you might consider increasing that for the harder mechanics (some mechanics in Vet will simply one-shot you if not blocked regardless).

In most 4 man dungeons, probably all, if you are getting one shot there is a mechanic you are missing. Even if DPS get one shot someone missed a mechanic. This is part of learning the content.

BTW, as you have probably surmised already, as you gain more CP and spend it you will gain more max stat as a percentage of your max stat. In the end you will need to invest less into health to get the same max health. This is just an FYI.

I would also suggest looking at Woeler's site. It has some great information and some gear ideas that are more for end game trials but you may find it helpful. https://woeler.eu/

Also, @paulsimonps keeps up a thread on mitigation which you may find useful. He updates it as it changes with an update. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/279426/damage-mitigation-explanation-updated-for-morrowind-new-calculator/p1

However, tanks at end game do not gear for resistance. They gear for sets that help the group even if that set adds extra health to themselves. If they hit the resistance cap it is merely because a set that is beneficial for other reasons happens to have resistance in it. Again, an FYI.

Thanks for the replies everyone, this is really a great community. One last question if you have time. Besides heavy armor, what's a good set of traits to invest in for the Red CP line? (All I wear is heavy, since I tank as much as solo, but have a good CP 160 gold 1H, 2H, and shield. Working on getting enough tempering alloy to get rest of gear gold. Played this same class at launch, think I even had 3 day early start.

Was out over a year due to cancer, but I beat that boss fight and have been clean since November 4th 2017, so learning what I didn't get with my Origional toon who made it to VR 2 before I had to leave for medical treatments and cash reasons.
