What would be the most enjoyable class/spec in terms of both pve and pvp?

Pretty much what title says. I personally love my NB but a friend of mine who is just starting out has troubles liking the game as one in its current state.

We're looking for something that's fairly easy to get used to, isn't too frustrating to play, and can easily switch playstyles, and is overall fun to play without spending 100s and 100s of hours on it.

My guess was a DK, would you guys agree or recommend something else?

As far as races go something that would fit either a dunmer or khajiit.

Your second paragraph does not describe DK in their current state, not even close.

Really? Maybe it's just cuz I've had a nightblade for years and then made a DK which seemed 5x easier to me lol

DKs are basically pigeonholed in one of 2 builds (heavy 7th legion for stam, lots of blockcasting with meh damage on magicka). The devs have neglected updating the design of class from the first iteration of the game when they were the strongest for several patches.

Alright, what would you recommend then? Should I keep forcing him into NB? Orrrr...

Stam is preffered but I'm sure he could play a caster too. After some convincing.

    Not DK.

The stamina choice is probably warden.
    • Wardens have almost all the virtues of DKs.
    • They have better and simpler self-healing.
    • They have a class ranged attack, which gives you the option of not playing with a bow.

The magicka choices are probably sorcerer or templar.
    • Both are strong.
    • Both are good at self-healing, and indeed eventually make good dungeon healers. (The templar is better for that, but sorcerer is solid too.)
    • Both have further strong aids to survival. For the sorcerer it's pet tanks, class shield, and Surge. For templar it's Puncturing Sweeps.
    • Templar damage dealers naturally fight within melee range, but there are long-range options as well.
    • Sorcerers naturally use pets, but there are non-pet options as well.

Are the wardens great in both pvp and pve is his only question? @FrancisCrawford

Just hold be off till levelling adviser goes live. It will advise for stamina or Magicka dps, tank and healer for each class. You could even be a dk healer if you wanted.

For beginning in eso, i would recommend a class with an oh-*** heal or shield button. Which leaves warden, templar and sorcs for magicka classes and mostly warden for a stam char.

    I'm 100 % biased, but Nightblade.

NB's are most elusive class. They can be made decent and competitive for every role, yet they don't master any role.

And for roleplaying, nightblades are best for Dark brotherhood or thieves guild.

    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

    Go dominion or go home

Nightblade-Hipster. I played Nightblade before it was cool - from 1.5 onwards.

For pve stam dk and mag sorc can be purely dot + heavy attack. Resource problem don’t really exist. Animation cancel is less important vs light attack builds. Stam dk is strong in pvp because is very tanky, but not enought burst result in often stalemate. Mag sorc has good dmg, but now lack of cc in pvp after crystal nerf.

I know little about PvP, but stamina wardens are said to be excellent there. My comments were based on PvE leveling.

Also, when you do get into dungeons and so on, stamina wardens are said to make pretty good tanks.

    Magicka sorcerer

Magsorcs are easy to use in PvP and PvE and it's easy to push out high damage with simple rotations (compared to other classes)
Artemis Absinthe - DC magicka nightblade (PC - EU)
Gruzosh Barrelsmasher - DC stamina sorcerer (PC - EU)
Kew'bacca - AD stamina nightblade (PC - EU)
Jebediah Orbrynn - DC magicka templar (PC - EU)
Hold-Many-Bags - Mule DK, Promoted to main tank, occasionally stamDD
Olaf Proudstache - Mule - No longer with us Now a Stamwarden healer
Aglieglie Brazorf - AD magicka sorcerer (PC - EU)
Rodolfo Lavandino - DC stamina, greatsword wielding, Jesus beam spamming, Redguard hybrid templar just a stamplar again (PC - EU)
Lemmy Raise Master - EP stamina necromancer (PC - EU)

Scions of Dawn recruitment ad - PC EU multifaction PvE endgame raiding guild

LUI user - I can see you when you fap loot.
