outfit system completely based off learned motifs?

From what ive read so far, the outfit system is completely based off learned motifs?

I have never been interested in collecting motifs so all I have is the basic racial styles and maybe a couple other ones from seasonal events. I sold every other motif drop I found.
Players like myself will have very limited options for outfits?

Better start learning motifs man. :D
I spent 400k on motifs as soon as the live stream ended.

well if its true that you need motifs to use the outfit system than I am completely disappointed :(
outfits will be useless for me. That's really too bad they made it this way.

I was hoping it would be like other games where you can learn an appearance from an item which I think would have been much better.

It's not the devs fault you didn't take initiative to learn motifs. If it makes you feel better, you can preview a costume with out knowing the motifs you are using, then you can go buy the ones you need for that specific costume. So you wont be wasting money buying things you might not want.

Its just the new and hard to get motifs who are expensive. the original ones outside of imperial is 100-200 gold each.

Should have allowed players to craft custom costumes as collectables *and* sell them. I’m surprised this system has released without adding more value to those who know like every style in the game.

Personally it wouldn’t benefit me but this just seems like a missed opportunity imo.

initiative? more like there was no motivation to learn motifs. All the CP160 gear my characters wore was monster or dropped sets with no way to change the appearance. motifs had no use till now except to sell for gold. I guess this will be great for collectors.

will all the learned motifs become available as a costume slot option for this one free costume or will we get a costume version of every motif like the normal costumes (i doubt it knowing zos but it would be awesome)?

Once you learn a motif it goes to your style library, which is a collection of all motifs known across all your characters. The outfit system is completely based off of motifs. You have to know the motif to use it. You will be able to preview different looks and see which motif you want just not be able to save it until you learn the motif.

This would of made it great. It's cool now but I am not hyped or like I will use this a lot.

Buy the motifs you want now before prices go up. Even the rarest ones are barely worth anything these days. Prices will spike for a few weeks following rhe release of the transmog system so it's better to buy now.

Think this is the first step in the system. It could open up to more styles as they work it out.

    This.

In the livestream they said "The system revolves around motifs. For now."

The fact they said for now this early on is huge.

I thought that they would do it like, you have the item you use and an item with the look you want and then merge them. Save the stats on one and replace the appearance with the other.
That way people would have a reason to craft items to sell to others just for the appearances of the items.

Because people could craft crown motif costumes and ZOS might see fewer crown store purchases as a result.

I think it makes quite a bit of sense this way, rewards crafters who haven’t really seen much appreciation and breathes new life into the motif market.

No, it doesn't. This change means that people will buy a motif on one character (probably a crafting alt) and then will never touch that motif ever again.

In the short term this will lead to an increase in motif sales as people fill in gaps (if they haven't already got the ones they wanted already because... they are the ones they want) but in the long term this is likely to lead to fewer motif sales overall.

This person gets it. There will be a motif frenzy for a short while, as people fill in their collection. After that, motifs will become more useless than they currently are, and lose value.

Also, it does not benefit a master crafter in any way, it actually kills what business we have left.
Just make someone craft you what you want in basic racial motif, and you can change the appearance yourself.

It also removes all value from the style stones, that were already abundant and fast losing value as it was.

I was wondering if the motif system would be account-wide, and the answer is yes. Well, it sounds good. No need to learn styles with all the characters

I wonder if this system account-based? You know, one your character-crafter learns all the styles and others use his skills. It would be horrible if my main character who wasn't interested in styles himselves before - now would be supposed to learn all that expensive styles.

Yes it will, when you learn a motif on any character it will create a style collectable that's account wide and is what is used to make outfits

Once people get their collection finished (and many already have), the motif frenzy will be over, and motifs will be worth even less than what they currently are, since the crafting needs for specific motifs has just gone out the window.

I predict a frenzy spike in motif prices for a short while, followed by a plummeting of motif prices until they are even lower than what they currently are.

If you are patient, you can save your gold and wait for the inevitable plummet.

Nope. If this had been a LOTRO-style system (saving the appearance of a piece of armour you actually own) or even if it wasn't imposing account-wide motif access then I would have been over the moon about it.

Two fairly simple approaches that would have had me spouting sunbeams and rainbows.

This isn't about complaining for complaining's sake... this is about identifying specific issues that may have a negative impact.
