I just typed thread because nobody opened it... and then I saw thread is opened. I will copy my scraped thread text here then :):

Valve released last night „Best of 2017 TOP SELLERS – The top 100 games as measured by gross revenue this year“.

I am suprised that ESO is even in Gold category (Platinum is really heavy weight), and it‘s best selling MMO on Steam, too! As you can see, two biggest other competitors are in Silver category. It means ESO is top 24 most selling game on Steam in 2017.

Another thing – because it is gross revenue, it meas Morrowind/DLCs, Plus Membership and Crown sales are included, too and that means that relatively „small“ Steam population has huge spending habits. And yes, I am happy Steam player, too ;). Also, game broke highest average monthly number of players in December.

I don't play ESO since 15.06. because Cyrodiil is broken since Summerset (PvE isn't much better, too)...

Aldmeri Dominion (PC Europe via Steam)

The cowardly Wood Elves are best noted for their unwillingness to engage in a face-to-face attack; a Bosmer will strike at you from every side except the front. You won't cross swords with a Bosmer, but you might catch an arrow in the throat. Be wary in forests and jungles, and watch your back.

There are some Steam bashers here on forum, and yet, it was Zenimax which adapted ESO to Steam and it is now proven without any doubt, it was huge and one of the most important decision ever!

Some other stats – as we officially know, at late November it was announced 10 million copies were sold and player population is failry split between platforms (PC / Xbone / PS4). At announcement, ~1,5 million Steam copies were sold which means ~45% of PC players are on Steam and ~55% use ESO launcher directly from game site. It means, Steam playerbase is almost large as standalone version.

With above, you can calculate roughly how many daily active players are i.e. up to ~100k.

$10 on sale and no required sub is such a great deal, and the Humble Bundle was great too. I've brought 5 friends to the game and hopefully a 6th soon.

Well done - great achievement. ESO is fantastic adventuring. So glad I came back to it after a rather rough start.

Your stats are a little bit off. ZOS announced 10mil copies sold in June (at E3). Back then Steam showed 1,1mil of copies sold (only 11% of total).

ZOS also stated on multiple occasions that the playerbase between all three platforms is equal, which means that Consoles are 2/3 of total, and that Steam represents only 1/3 of PC.

I'm more impressed with the fact that ESO is in top 24 after nearly 4 years on such an irrelevant "platform" (from ESO's standpoint). I mean come on, Steam represents less than 10% of ZOS's total yearly revenue, I'd even go as far to argue that it's likely closer to only 5% when you factor in how many rather buy crown packs and DLCs directly from the official site (+ Valve takes a 30% cut).

There are just too many problems with MMOs on Steam, their launcher is terrible, and support ain't that great either. Games get some free marketing though, which is always nice.
