Does anyone have any success running Bogdans? I've found it rather underwhelming in PVP.

Nope. Which is a shame cause that helmet looks sweet.

Indeed, if only Bogdan's healing radius was larger or had a secondary effect that was more dynamic than a simple heal. I think healers crave a go to monster helm beyond Troll King and the ridiculously op Earthgore.

    LF advice about scathing mage

What builds is this intended for? I heard that it used to proc off each tick of nightblades path of darkness so it had a great uptime, but now it is just a 20% proc chance with a direct damage ability that crits...

My basic assumption is that you can fire one skill per second, so it may take up to 5 seconds to proc the 6 second buff IF you had 100% crit chance. With perfect light attack animation cancelling you could potentially get twice the number of direct damage attacks off. Napkin maths says scathing mage proc needs to have 60% uptime to be as good as julianos.

Is it possible for scathing to outperform julianos in chaotic vet content? Are there tricks I'm not aware of (e.g. does force pulse count as three seperate direct damage attacks, )? I haven't tested the set but it looks like the requirements to proc it could only be achieved regularly on a dps test dummy. Any advice before the end of the weekend will be appreciated.

The main point of this set is to be used by Force Pulse spammers in PvE. Each cast ticks damage three times....this means 3 chances for Direct Damage crits to proc this set per cast. Also not sure if Force Pulse’s secondary effect hitting other targets counts as direct damage, but if it does, then casts can potentially have up to 5 Direct Damage strikes per cast.

In PvE, the two classes that mainly cast this skill a lot are Magicka Sorc and Magicka Warden (Force Pulse >> Cliff Racers :(). Magicka Templar can spam it too but usually not as much.
Scathing Mage is absolutely best as a Mag Sorc or Mag Warden, and Mag Warden in particular has a skill (Swarm) which is a DoT where each tick actually counts as a Direct Damage Tick for further Scathing Mage and Nerien’eth proc opportunities.

The Asylum Staff (especially Perfected) is a no-brainer to use as a DPS who spams Force Pulse. The same goes for Nerien’eth which is BiS for a DPS that constantly spams Force Pulse though not by as much.

Essentially, if you use Scathing Mage, you will want to run one of these two setups:
    • 2x Nerien’eth, 5x Scathing Mage, 3x Willpower/Moondancer/IA, 1x Asylum Destro, 1x Maelstrom Destro
    • 5x Julianos, 5x Scathing Mage, 1x Asylum Destro, 1x Maelstrom Destro

    There are two questions here:
Is Scathing Mage stronger than Julianos? (depends on the fight)
    Is 5x Julianos stronger than 2x Nerien’eth and 3x Willpower/Moondancer/IA? (idk)

Maybe in the future there will be a better 5-piece set to pair Scathing Mage with than Julianos, but currently there is not.

Also if you look it up, ppl recommend Mag NB... don’t use Scathing Mage on a Mag NB lol. They used to have an AoE DoT (Path of Darkness) that counted each tick as Direct Damage and proced Scathing constantly. That skill was bugfixed so Mag NB no longer uses this set.

@Vaoh thank you for taking the time to write a really comprehensive and clear explanation. You answered all my questions (except whether I should buy the gold jewellery this weekend, and that is a question I am finding harder to answer now I understand how to properly use the set).

Np! If you don’t have a Perfected Asylum Flame Staff or Lightning Staff, or you do but don’t care for the specific playstyle, then it may not be worth buying :/

If you have a whole lot of Gold/AP to spare then I would buy it regardless, but not otherwise lol. Also I can see this set *maybe* getting a small buff one day though no one can say for sure except ZOS.

Overall it is best summed up as a marginal buff over Julianos under all of the right circumstances.... it is only worth having if this is a playstyle you really want to invest into and have everything else specced to fully utilize it.

That's trippy. I accidentally bought an extra one of these. I lagged slightly and hit buy twice. I'll hang onto the extra one for you. ^_^

Bogdans could theoretically be interesting. Stack 10 - 24 people all running this set and you'll have a handful of the totems on the ground at any given time. That could be 10k or more heals per second just from this set. If all those players are tanky to start with, the heals are a nice safety net. Any one person running this will likely not make any difference, but a well coordinated group running multiples could have a broken amount of heals on them.

I get like 80% uptime on a direct damage build that features a lot of Crushing Shock spam.
