Hi, I was thinking in a new pvp build for my stamina dk and I was thinking in combine draugr hulk + bones pirate + velidreth. But I'm not sure if Viper is a better option. What do you suggest me??
Viper used to be the best burst damage proc set because it did that poison damage in one single hit. Now its a DOT, which means its much easier to heal or cleanse through in PVP.
So, if the reason you want Viper is because of the extra damage from the procs, you'd do better to go with one of your class/weapon skills for that. With the max stamina you've got from draugr hulk/bone pirate, you should be hitting like a truck. Your Velidreth is a much more potent proc for burst damage, assuming the enemy doesn't dodge it.
If, however, you want Viper for the DOT, such as for a poison build, a DOT build, or you play in No CP where the proc will be more effective than in CP (due to less damage mitigation/resources for heals and cleanses), Viper might still be worth a try. You may find that its still ineffective at generating the pressure that you want it to have on your opponent or that the trade-off in less stamina isn't worth it.
Generally speaking, when the Viper set became a DOT, it lost a lot of its draw in PVP because PVP is in large part about burst damage. Viper is much more easily countered now, which is good for counterplay, but also means the set is largely out of favor in PVP. Technically, its as effective in PVE as every, except stam builds in PVE get more benefits from other sets now. So that's why peeople will say Viper is pointless. I wouldn't say its pointless, just that its no longer the BIS proc set it used to be. If it fits the build you want, by all means try it out. just recognize its limitations.
