ZOS...please change furnishing mat approach with next major homestead update

I think homestead and the furnishing craft system is awesome, I’d just add a slightly new approach to the requirements for any given piece.

The mat requirements for any single purple or lower quality piece should be something that can be farmed specifically, and it should be something a player can farm in about an hour. The point of furnishings is to put hundreds into a home, so if a player obtains a recipe they shouldn’t be hindered by a long grind for each piece.

Of specific note, the rakeipa requirements are bad. You can’t farm a specific rune stone, so a player has to grind forever to generate 15 for a single light. Or they have to use guild stores, which is fine except your crafting bags mean that mats are rare in stores. I did a test last Friday, and if a player wanted to make a dozen quality lights, the guild stores on PS4 NA didn’t have enough rakeipa in the six major trade areas.

Style mat requirements are also bad on some items. A player can’t farm ancient elf style mats specifically, so that entire line of furnishings is cumbersome. Dwemer is ridiculous. I’d note that I specifically decided not to buy the Orbservstory because I don’t want to go through the hassle of making dwemer stuff. I have the recipes...just I don’t want to spend $2 million on Frames.

Let’s rething furnishing crafting in the next major update, and make the requirements a little less annoying. If players feel there’s a path to easily furnishing their homes, they’ll play the system more. When you set it up to consume all mats of a specific type in the game and they’re not available, it’s annoying.

Furnishing is a gold sink and it always was. So while your suggestions are good, from ZOS' perspective the grinding involved with making everything yourself or spending the gold to get all the supplies is a feature, not a bug.

Clockwork furniture takes teh brass mat, not dwemer frames, unless you were planning to put dwwmer pipes all over the place or something

I feel like the issue isn’t that furniture is a grind but rather that it is a nigh-impossible and highly unrewarding one due to unreliable and inconsistent drops of mats that are so low in availability that even one person could not sink gold into them because they’re just not available in high enough quantities to buy.

I get that house furnishing should be a gold sink but 20 flour for one small apple is just weird. I think amount of materials should be roughly determined by object size at least. ex:
    small thing-5 mat
    medium thing- 10 mat
    large thing- 15 mat
    really large thing- 20 mat

The dwemer frame requirements are ridiculous. At least the CWC stuff uses only 1 style item. Agreed with Rakeipa, I cant find any on guild traders...

I do agree that the required amounts of some mats are too high.

I completely agree on this - some of the mat requirements are ridiculous. I made a wreath out of 4 lettuce and 4 apples - cost me almost 200 flour. Why am I using flour for lettuce?? And forget making candles.

Ah, yes. To make one wax potato you need 3 Decorative Wax, 5 Nickel, 2 Potatoes and 20 Flour.
The wax is obvious and the flour must be to texture the exterior (20 measures?).
I assume the nickel is to make a framework mesh to stick the wax to.
What are the potatoes for? In case you forget what one looks like? To eat if you get hungry while making it? :)

I think the flour thing for foods is because we're technically making "wax replicas" or fake display foods for our houses. I get why they did that, especially since I bet people would say things like "how can we just leave food out in our houses won't it go bad" etc. I don't think that's necessary though

That does make a certain amount of sense - but more sense if it used decorative wax. I'm just frustrated - I've stopped making any actual food that uses flour because of furnishing.

@davey1107 @Whiphid This is a bit clunky, but have you tried buying Flame glyphs off of NPC Enchanters and deconning them? It's not a guarantee you'll get the right runes back, and it could get expensive, but would be faster than looting rune nodes.

The return rate from glyphs is too damn low. 3 out of 10 only give a Ta, 1 may give some extra, 6 give nothing.

I agree. Dwemer frame is too rare. Some of the recipes need to be adjusted. They don't seem to be in touch with how rare some of the items actually are. The requirements for nickel and flour are just silly.
