Can I make my tank less boring?

Hello guys, how are you? Enjoy the new life event?

So, a couple months ago I make a nord DK tank, really like the class but the role is sort of boring... I really can tanking all dungeons without problem but my damage its shameful... I mean, I know that I'm a tank not a dps, but is really annoying that i can't even solo/carry a normal dungeon(I mean, techinically I can, but take a loooonng time).
So, my doubt is if Ican transform my tank in a hybrid tank/stam dps and continue tanking dungeons( I don't do trials)

I'm use right know 5 ebon/5 plague doctor and 2 random monster set(bone pirate and another one that give me resistence)
My atributes are 10 stam, 10 magic and the rest in health and my mundus is the one that give magicka recovery

I'm thinking in change one of my sets for sevenths legion, but wich one?
And about mundus , atributes distribution and cps alocations(?

I'm using sword and shield in both bar, but im thinking in change one of them for two handed or dual wield, what you guys think?

I know that is impossible be the best tank and a solid dps in the same char, but I'm really need a little dps hahahahaha

Really thanks guys :)

Edit: forgot to ask about the glyphs and traits too... so, what about the glyphs and traits hahahaha?

If you are on PC, you can install a skill and equipment changer addon, and you can change roles depending on the situation.

After a few days of tanking I got hella bored.

Then there's the risk of getting paired with horrid dps and it gets even more drawn out.

I've started to theory craft dps/healer dps/tank type builds, because you're gonna need some dps.

I think dps healer would be the most entertaining (all for PuGs mind you)

Use monster sets like stormfist aoe, selene single target/boss, etc. Kind of depends on what you like.

Although bs is useful, if I get bored of bloodspawn or dps is bad, letting the monster proc contribute damage helps.

You could switch to something like ravager as well.

Well I enjoy tanking as an Argonian Nightblade a year ago! Now I am trying a Ice Staff Warden too see what is up trying to tank with them and I can already see it has some Ward stuff going on "No pun intended!" like the barriers? I mean really those barriers are great provided if the are strong enough and I am working on that too through my Champion Points.

My tank is realy just a dk stamina dps in heavy armour, bear in mind this is a fun build and while in most groups it will murder normal dungeons it is not intended as a vet tank. She carries a spare plague doctor five piece for that

    4 piece dreugh king slayer
    5 hundings
    2 skoria

Divines with Warrior Mundus on the big bits and sturdy on the rest

Two handed sword and sword and sheild, the little sword has infused with crusher enchant, I think the two handed is nirn with fire rune, just slot the taunt from one hand and sheild that gives breach then tool it up with all the toys. Most fun character I have, it ain’t doing no vet trial but with 28 thousand health and nearly thirty k resistance across the board it’s an absolute beast for normal dungeons.

Skills.... it’s been a while since I changed her at all...

    Err... ahh yes

    Hand weapon and sheild
poison breath (helps proc skoria by hitting more things), SnB taunt/debuf, the spiked armour that shoots out darts (for skoria again), the fireball for extra passive crit (flames of oblivion I think) and igneous weapons for extra heavy attack power
Ultimate is the dragon leap that does the most damage, also has longer range

    Two handed
Brawler, reverse slice, wrecking blow, rally (the healing one), Venomous claw
Ultimate flawless dawn breaker for a passive damage boost

Shove in dragons blood if you need more heals, cheap ultimates to top up stamina and magic in a pinch, or use standard of might if you prefer.

Basicaly just keep up taunt, debuf and then dot, aoe and heavy attack like mad until the enemy falls over, you’ll know it’s right when skoria goes of nice and regular, you have so many damage ticks that it should happen close to the maximum rate, your no dps master but you ain’t dying very often either

Are you simply standing and taking hits? You could try being more aggressive with buffs and debuffs, learning to block cancel, using more abilities more frequently, interrupting ranged enemies...

You don't need all that health for dungeons and 4-person content doesn't need ebon, try swapping for fun sets: NMG in med+heavy f'ex, or Eternal Hunt. Grothdarr is a lot of fun on a tank, especially if you have chains! :D I only run ~27k health in vet dungeons so I have lots of stamina & magicka, and keeping up abilities while managing resources gives me lots to do.

Or you could try harder and/or newer content: Falkreath Hold and Cradle of Shadows are, imo, much more interesting to tank than Elden Root and other spank 'n tank fights. (I love Dranos and Cerunnon, they're some of my favorite fights in the game and having a class gap close will help on Dranos.)

If you are bored tanking, then you aren't doing nearly enough of the job.
The most effective way for a Tank to increase Damage output, is not by doing damage themselves. It's by doing things to increase the DDs damage output. Thats why Alksoh and Torug's are so strong.
Roar of Alkosh - Reduces the Physical and Spell Resistance of any enemy hit by 3010
Torug's Pack - Crusher enchantment reduces Physical and Spell Resistance by 2740
Gathering up mobs so that the DDs DoT hit them all takes a far amount of resources. Especially during Boss fights so that DDs never stop DPSing the Boss.
Watching the rest of the group, to make sure no mobs are on them, keeping the Boss taunted, throwing out some of your own heals for the group. Having enough of your own self sustain to be able to do rez's can bring a group back from a wip, or just free up the other DPS to continue to DPS while you tank and rez at the same time.

I personally Tank on a Warden. I go for resistance cap (33150) 40k Health, 20k Stamina, 14k Magicka and 1700 magic Regen (Only 1 stamina skill, and I perma block). DK usually want bigger pools because they have burst resource regen, while Wardens have constant trickle regen. There are also tanks that don't go for resistance cap. Woeler doesn't.

Cradle so harder content, but in the first part, I'm pulling Spiders into the light, then the Boss fight. 1 of the DDs had an Ice Staff pulling taunt(bugged), so its a messy fight. Still its a skin run so otherwise solid group

Edit: Some tanking notes. I'm usually running past her so that her cleave is facing away from the group. While I'm mostly ignoring the spider adds, you do see them getting Immobilized when they are near me, which gives DDs breathing space. I'm lighting Brazers when they are close, and I'm staying on top of her interrupt which is a 1 shot to many DPS. I'm also casting a heals too, though they mostly go to me. Have a very good Healer in that group

Maura_ Neysa....were you trying to make tanking look fun in that video....?

I took am trying to spice up Tank life. I switched my DK to a stam dps and my nightblade to a Sap Tank. Granted, a far cry from what it once was, but it’s still perfectly viable for vet dungeons.

    The Sap Tank
The one class you can actually still run Tavas on (because of mirage). I generate so much ultimate I can drop meteors almost nonstop. I save either bolstering darkness or soul tether if things get reaaul. Sadly, the class can’t quite stand up to a DK or Warden tank for trials viability. Even with max resistances and 30kish health, it has no built in damage shields to spam when things get really rough. Though, shades provide a pretty good minor maim, and I can do a LOT of group healing through Sap essence, funnel health, echoing Vigor, tether, darkness, and refreshing path. Usually no one is that close to the Tank in trials, so that aspect is almost entirely wasted in that setting as well.
It is fun though. Can easily run SnB and resto staff, or 2xSnB. It’s esentially a heavy armor Mageblade, and unlike DK, having an execute (impale) makes vet dungeons a joke. Even DLC ones (bloodroot is still fairly difficult though I’ll say).

@SmellyUnlimited While that's an easy fight as a tank, it is still a pretty involved one. There's no audio to hear my call outs, but that fight often has distractions from the boss for the others. Maybe it's boring to you, which case don't tank, it could also just be that when I watch it I am seeing everything I should be doing, and thus looks more interesting to me.
I definitely see some of my own flaws. I absolutely overcast, but there is till NO down time in this fight were I'm just blocking. I'm constantly moving to her, positioning her, call outs, and laying down my own skills. (Rebuffing, getting my Minor Maim applied, or just getting my health back up.)

I used it because its one of the few PvE videos I have, and while there are plenty of better tanks than me, I know I'm a pretty @mn good one. So I thought I would share, to give an idea of what full tank set up looks like. Obviously my damage is now where close to a NB tank, then again I can handle Vet HRC Warrior, which I haven't seen a NB do yet. And whether the video looks(doesn't look) interesting to the OP then I figure it's helpful.

I love tanking so I'm definitely bias though.

it depends on the content. for some vet dungeons and trials you would be very busy with the mechanics as the tank.

but for things like normal Fungal Grotto, better be a "fake tank" (almost full dps and only cast taunt on boss)

Been tanking with a mag warden ice staff back bar, lightning staff mag sorc health tank, a dodge based Stam nb tank. Good dps, awesome crowd control (at least on the warden and sorc), having a constant shield ult from the Stam nb while proccing swarm mothers is another fun way to play around.

Personally I have a complete different set on standby when I want to solo. Level some other weapons lines that normally a DPS would use. Then spend the 3k to redistribute your attribute points, you’ll make that back from the dungeon. Last step: Stay a DPS.

Seriously though, that’s what I end up doing as it just faster and more efficient. I switch back to my tank setup when I feel like it. Sure, some skills are better for tanking than DPS but they still work fine. Don’t worry about remorphing skills every time.

Gear does not make tanking interesting or boring, for the greater part.

What you tank and to a great degree who you run with is what makes it interesting. Zos has designed some very good instances for tanking.

vMoL is probably my favorite though vHoF offers a good challenge for tanks to keep them on their toes. Some of the DLC dungeons I have found interesting. vDSA is still pretty good.

Tanking the easy straight forward 4 man dungeons is pretty boring. Especially since many can be tanked by a DPS or do not need a tank at all.
