How long does it take to get mages guild 10? Do you reach level 10 when you’ve collected every single mages guild book or do you only need to collect most books to get it? I feel like my bar barely moves when I find a book

I like to do the quests because at the end of each quest there is a extra book that closes the collections. When you close a collection you actually gets more points in mage's guild skill line.

I suggest you to focus on closeing the collection, not just picking up random books overland.

Not long, I got to level 10 (after doing all the quests) by using the site below for locations of lore books. Find all the lore books in a zone and you get bonus XP...

Edit: don't have to collect all the books, I thought that at first too, not even close. It really isn't that bad and doesn't take too long. Ice Comet is awesome in PvP, the ult I usually use.

So there is a specific collection you can only get from the quests?

Goes without saying, but get the Lorebooks addon if you are on PC. Keep the dulfy site handy if you are on console.

My "routine" when trying to level up a new toon's mages guild (which is typically something I'll do right away) is to port to every location I can in my trade guilds (via port to guild member) and grab nearby books. That typically get you a long way in mages guild, and level 8 or so from exploration XP, AND gives you convenient wayshrines around Tamriel before you really "start" playing the toon. Takes a couple episodes of TV.

Yes bundle book hunt with skyshards and the other zone stuff like dolmens, public dungeons and faction quest.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Really, a few hours is all it take. Here is how to most efficiently get the books.

    1. Focus on an Alliance for the first 5 zones you collect. There is an overlap between zones so that if you clear one, the companion zone for the other Alliance will be missing about half the books. So, if you clear say Glenumbra, then Auridon will only have about half the books as you already found some in Glenumbra. Once you finish all 5 zones, you should be at L8 or so in the Mages. From there, you can pick other zones to flesh it out.
    2. If you don't have an addon to show you where the books are, and for some reason you refuse to print out a map of the book locations, then collect them during the game's night. You can see the glow from a long distance away.
    3. Pay attention to the places you find the books, all the Lore Books can be found in similar places like camp sites, near trees that have something interesting on the ground etc. Once you recognize how these locations work, then you can zero in on them for other places.
    4. Do Mages Guild Dailies for some help with leveling Mages Guild (the ones that send you out for an item in a Public Dungeon)
    5. No, for some odd reason the Mages Quest Line does not contribute to Leveling the Mages Guild. This would help a lot if you got say, half your MG leveling from the quest line.

Any single book will give you a low amount of Mages guild XP. Completing a collection will give you a lot more.

On consoles, the fastest I've been able to do MG 10 is around 5 hours. But I was not speeding or anything.

On PC/MAC you might need just a fraction of that time with add ons.

After 10 characters, the most efficient way I found was to just do the "Regional Lore" colletions in each zone. Those collections have 10 books each and are mostly very close together, which allows you to grab them much faster than every book. I also grab any random books I encounter.

I know there are 3 zones where one of the books are gated behind quests. I usually just skip those, though I know the Eastmarch one can be found in Vvardenfel. I don't remember the other 2 regions.

After just doing the regional lorebooks, I'm usually half way on level 9 and just need a few MG daily quests or random books to complete.

At least for me, grabbing every book in a region was at least 2x slower than doing what I said above.

You get 5 points for a book, a collection gives you another 20 on top of the last book you collect.

Took 6 hours for me, also on console. I did use a online guide showing locations on a map too.

Me too, hehe. I'm not a masochist!

I also only even try to level MG when I have Rapids and at least 30 speed on my horse (most my alts were created long before I started playing them so most were already at max speed).

LOL, I was going to test this out this morning, only I picked Eastmarch to do it, and you can't get all the books in that zone unless you can get to the last stage of the zone MQ.

Thanks to @CalmFury I was able to locate the book in Vvardenfell of all places...

If you are talking about the last lorebook of the region, you can actually grab it in Vvardenfell, near that house in the northwest. It is in boat in a little dock there.

    @CalmFury

Forgot I owned that house. So, I went there and even the Tool Tip says Eastmarch Lore, and sure enough, it gave me the collection completion.

    Thank your for the tip.

BTW, the Collection bonus is 20 points, on top of the 5 you get for the book.

If you want to preserve your sanity, it's going to take at least 3 days, just do a few zones at a time, then stop.

I'm too lazy to even slot rapids haha, but I do go for a complete codex of book sets to get more numbers.

I actually never new about the bonus points added until just recently.

I have the lorebooks add-on and use it with all my toons. I don't leave the zone for the next one until I've gotten all the lorebooks in that zone.

Also for those who don't have MW, you DON'T need to have completed or be on the last Eastmarch quest to pick up the copy of that book there - just ask a friend or guildmate to go to Skuldafn so that you can travel to them, the book is near the wayshrine. You don't even need to have done any quests to be able to do this.

No problem! I was surprised too. Now I know there are only 2 regions you should skip... The problem is I NEVER remember which ones hehe... I hate getting old...

I takes about 3 hours for me. I make sure I have rapids and I'm max level to burn trash quickly. I also do public dungeon group events and overland skyshards at the same time, delve skyshards aren't worth the time.

I do all the regions in a single alliance, then I do other regions one at a time until I'm done. I make sure when I do the other regions all of their books are close together. Rivenspire for example has one book at one end of the map while the rest are at the other end.

I learnt from the first time that hunting some of the missing ones down in Cyrodiil is just not worth it if your horse speed isn't really high. It's better to just go to a new region and finish the regional collection.
