The long road to Master Angler

I’ve been off and on trying to get Master Angler. I finally landed in Stormhaven. I really think something is a little messed up as you see I’ve gotten the Alcaire Pike four times and after like... 3 days of fishing I finally got the Dab. I think I had a total of 12 Pike by the time I got one Dab.

You have no idea how much bait I went through and how much begging I did to get someone to fish with me. I’m really hoping don’t have this happen with any other fish.

I probably will because that’s how this game rolls.
I only have Daggerfall territory left and then I might just do this all over on my alts. Cyrodiil was fun fishing in because all the zergs in Scourge (when Scourge was a thing).


Anyway... do I just have really bad luck or does Zos have the drop rate for the trophy fish mixed up?

Seems about right. I think it took me around 3 days to get a blue fish in Shadowfen.

I'm surprised there isn't some sort of skill line dedicated to fishing where players can invest skill points if they wish for some added benefits. We have skill lines for everything else we do in this game that it seems like an odd omission to ignore fishing. It would be pretty simple, the more you fish the more XP you get in the skill line. If you dedicate skill points, you can get things like slight increase to obtain rare fish, perfect roe, faster cast times, more fish per hole, increased benefits to group fishing, etc. There are many ideas we can throw out there.

I’m not even after the roe. I just want the stupid title. I spent a long time in Shadowfen for the foul water fish. That wasn’t fun at all. I hate Shadowfen.

Im stuck in shadowfen because Histcap refuses to drop. *** that fish.

It took me three game sessions to get the damn PuppyFish on Alik'r Desert and I'm four fishes away to get the Pact Fisherman achievement. Stonefalls is definitely the worst place to get foul and lake fish in that alliance zone.

When I went fishing to Cyrodiil, I couldn't get the Dominion zone's fish, since almost all the spots are only accessible via swimming and ZoS put slaughterfish recently. Did they fix that?

Auridon was like that for me. Sometimes you just get stuck. Grab a drink, sit back, and relax while you load up on those damn fish...

I'm about to start working on this achievement and wouldn't mind fishing buddies. I only have Khenarthis/Auridon done and I just started on Grahtwood earlier so I have a lot of fishing to do. If anyone on PC NA wants to work on this achievement shoot me a message and good luck to all of you!

@Stania You're going to have so much fun in Shadowfen. All that damn water and there are barely any fishing spots.

There is a suspicion that the drop rates were adversely impacted by the housing items you can catch but I have not seen any proof of it.

Got master angler on one character and will probably never do it on another......... I hope.

I went through over 1k guts to get the last lake fish to drop in Reaper's. It's taken me a while to get back into it after that lol

I had to spend days on end in Craglorn for one of the blue fish there... RNG just isn't always on our side.

On the reverse side (although not required for master angler) I managed to get every single fish in Vvardenfell on the first day of MW release.

It's just the way she goes sometimes.

I have most of the fish for clockwork. I don’t even know why Ive been fishing there

I also had problems with the dab in Stormhaven. I got like 20 of the alcaire and 30 of the other ocean fish before I got the dab. I actually tried looking it up because it didn't make sense that a blue fish (alcaire) would have such a higher droprate than a green fish (dab). I saw someone suggest that the droprates were flipped accidentally

Boy, you sure missed the point in your weird need to go on an unwarranted attack.

After about 4 blue fish pulled without pulling one of the greens, you should have Googled this. That's exactly what I did when the same thing happened to me, and that's when I learned the drop chance of two of the Stormhaven fist are swapped. There are several threads complaining about getting the Dab on this forum.

Once I Googled this, I knew the deal, and it made it much less frustrating. If you'd done the same, you might not have felt as much frustration as you felt.

And, since you seem to want to feel attacked, I'll throw this out as well: If you'd done a search, you wouldn't have come off as someone who who makes posts without doing a forum search first.

Correction - a Title and 'access' to a boat - you still have to buy it with in game gold. 25k if I remember correctly.

I bought Hundigs Palatial Hall after I got the boat because you can actually 'park' it on the beach by the waters edge.

I agree that the rate on the Dab is questionable (I also caught the other green + the blue before the Dab) but there is a drop of RNG to this. Take the wonderful Bangkorai fish the Bjoulsae Hake. I caught seven of these before I caught the green ocean fish I was missing, and yet I know a friend who took over a thousand casts to catch that thing.

Similarly the people here complaining about Shadowfen but I had a relatively smooth run through there. Auridon and Reapers on the other hand were pure torture to me XD

I spent one week tryin for one fish to get master angler with 2 hours a day was stupid sometimes rng is horrible. But I also cleared zones in just a few hours at the same time

I've spent three days trying to get Stickleback in the Grahtwood lakes. I know someone else who had the same issue. I'm not even fishing by myself but with another player. It's getting ridiculous because I constantly get Koi and have about 18 in my bag over two days and 0 Stickleback. In other zones, I've seen the standard fish per hole to be around 15-18, however the Grahtwood ones last around 3-12 fish with no one else fishing. It's ridiculous because the Grahtwood fishing holes are very far apart and the terrain is not player friendly.

The blue foul fish in stormhaven took me forever... I was actually convinced that it had been fished to extinction by everyone before me. I have to finish AD zones (started Auridon tonight) and CH. The end is getting near. Good luck in your fishing journey

I am stuck in Stonefalls now for more than a week. One blue fish left (Rainbow rander – lake) and I just hate it. I am surprised how easy Cyrodiil was for me. I got the foul fishes with the first hole and all the rest for only one afternoon.

I have 5 Master Anglers. I find it helpful, when you can't catch that one elusive fish, to leave the area for a day or two. Go do something else in another area and then come back. I usually catch that elusive fish fairly quickly when I come back a couple of days later. Good luck to all the fisherpeople out there.

This is actually funny because it took me over 15 hours collected to get the Dab fish. I talked to someone else a few weeks after that and he had the SAME complaint. Then I was fishing with a friend the other day there and they said the SAME thing. I think this is a bug right now lol.

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom any way to look into this specific Stormhaven fish "Dab"? I'm on PC/NA and had this problem plus numerous people have told me the same thing. It wasn't like this previously, because about 6 months ago I didn't run into this issue with this fish and hadn't heard of this issue.

Once took me 6 weeks to get Bjoulsae Hake. It's the blue ocean fish in Bangkorai. Fished up and down the coast week after week, fishing buddy after fishing buddy. My RNG in this game is really something else....

Pop a Rougish Escape or similar Restore Stamina with Increase Speed (Blessed Thistle + Dragonthorn + Namira's Rot for example) potion and you can outswim the sharks
