Um.... what happened Shades?

Haven't played my nightblade in a while and I decided to hop on him for some fun PvP. What did they do to shades, seriously?? It no longer works if there is ANYTHING between you and the shade, even if it's a damn pebble on the ground and this is extremely infuriating.
