PSA - Be-careful quitting ESO instead of logging out (Hypothesis) XBL

This is just mainly my assumption but after quitting the game from the dashboard instead of logging out (like I normally did) my data seems to have been corrupted at-least server side. Now I am no longer able to sync my data to my account with support bouncing questions that I've already told them I had done in my initial message to them. Most likely it will be lost forever and that's going to be a major bummer but I felt I should at-least make this issue aware and state when I first encountered such a thing.

As I stated before I am hypothesizing that this issue occurred after I quit the game from the Xbox dashboard rather that logging out. The next day I logged in my data would not sync and would only freeze at the start screen. I've tried many options with Xbox support and all have failed with them stating that this issue is a developer issue and only they could solve it. I'd like to repeat myself that this is a(n) assumption as to how the problem began and this is my way of warning others so they too do not encounter this issue.

My hypothesis when it comes to solving this issue is most likely when the servers go down for maintenance as this is an issue with data being confirmed from the server since my other account can access the game just fine. I've noticed someone else on the forums has a similar issue to mine when I posted in the technical support thread for Xbox one but nonetheless I wish everyone the best.

TL;DR - Do not quit the game via dashboard just log-out and exit the game as it may lead to corrupted data that may not be fix-able until maintenance (assuming that it'll fix the issue) or may not be recoverable. I am also assuming that this is what caused the issue to begin with as that is what I did last.

    That's...interesting.

Whenever I can help it I always choose Log Out, then when I'm back at the Character Select screen I press the Home button, navigate to the game and quit it from there and it's been fine. The only times where I've had to Quit the game without Logging Out of a Character first is when I get stuck in an infinite load screen, which happens quite often, but I've never had any trouble launching the game again.

Its either an issue in the cloud save or your save profile, if you havent tried to delete your save profile on your Xbox delete it and the "reserved data" if you havent already, should be good to go, had a similar issue before.

"To delete save data on the Xbox One:

    Go to Games.
Highlight The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited tile and press the [Menu] button of the controller.
    Select Manage Game.
Highlight and select Save Data for the desired user.
    Select Delete.
You'll be prompted to confirm deletion of this game save data:
Choose "Delete Everywhere" This will remove your saved data from this console, the cloud, and all other consoles you play on"

So yesterday I was playing everything went perfectly fine but the moment I got on earlier today well everything wasn't going fine. I get to the start menu and now it just freezes immediately; I've narrowed the problem down to an issue with sync data on ZOS side as my other account works and I had exhausted all options provided by Xbox Support.

    I have done the following.
    • Deleted XBL account
    • Deleted Local storage
    • Deleted persistent storage
    • Restarted Xbox
    • Reset Xbox
    • Reconfigured Xbox
    • Uninstalled entire game
    • Uninstalled any DLCs
    • Reinstalled the game
As you can see these are the steps I have taken thus far but none has succeeded.

Not sure if anyone at ZOS has a fix for this problem as this happens when trying to start the game (Freezes when you are at the screen to press A and login to your account).

Dang. I never actually log out my character when I quit playing on the Xbox. The thought of having to sit through one last load-screen just to stop playing is always too much. I guess I do it at my own risk.

Hey Maxwell, Sucks to hear you are having this issue. I'm shooting in the dark here... try saving your router settings and then do a restore factory settings reset. after, use your settings that you saved to restore them to your router. also, unplug your modem and let it reset. If this doesnt work try connecting your xbox by using your phone as a tether. wipe your local storage again during this to force the game to sync to cloud servers. Hopefully you can get this taken care of.

yeh thats not remotely possible from your xbox having a spaz.

I know it is the issue because it would show a sync window then freeze which tells me that the data is trying to sync to my account but is most likely corrupted as I am frozen before it can finish syncing.

    @Slick_007
Not sure what you're implying but I am going to assume you believe this is the fault of my xbox and if so then I'll like to say that you are incorrect. I can play any other game just fine but for ESO I cannot any longer.

Xbox player since launch. I've had every wacky thing happen with ESO you can imagine. The worse was being stuck in an infinite crash loop in the always wonderful Orsinium lol. Couldn't play my character for almost a week. Left my console unplugged a few days and cleared my Xbox cache. Finally worked.

It always seems to be a communication issue with the various client servers and Xbox Live. An Mmo has a much more complicated and robust server infrastructure then say Gears of War. Zenimax still has all your character information stored even if you deleted it. So for whatever reason your Xbox isn't syncing this info in turn. Could be an internet or modem maybe?

Ok, thanks. I was not familiar with that behavior.

You might have a hard drive issue then you tried what i said in my other comment. What you should try is if you have a friend with a Xbox log into your xbox live account on his/her system and go from there to see if it syncs. If it works your Xbox harddrive has an issue, if its not then its a cloud save issue as the hard drive and cloud save would be the only place the .sav/.data account info can be saved.

Nope no luck so far unfortunately; Zenimax contacted me to day stating that my ESO account would have to be unlinked from my XBL account of nearly 11 years (yeah I got an original Gamertag too) and link it to another account. I've expressed my unwillingness to do so as that's a lot of progress loss but have told them if they could setup up a identical account then that under my gamertag and just delete everything then I would be satisfied with that option as well.
I haven't received any response since sending that message (4pm EDT) and probably don't expect to see a response anytime soon.

Just thinking outside the box but wouldn’t it make more sense for them to unlink you. Have you delete your saves while they link it to a dummy profile on their end.

    Then

Move it back and have you link and resync?

@MaxwellC Consider changing your gamertag changes ALL your access to Xbox games, dlc, add-on, Xbox Live, registered hardware and Microsoft software licenses. It’s not a name change but a whole new account which isn’t something they should ever suggest as a game dev support. Only Xbox should deal with those ideas.

That would make sense ideally but I'd assume its far more complicated then that. They're suggesting that it can only be done that way and when it comes to changing my Gamer-tag I'd rather not lol.
