EU server latency issues: discussion thread

Hello community.
We've finally got to point where ZoS is completely ignoring multiple reports regarding latency problems since CWC update. Zos is answering 80% of posts in technical support category, the only ones unanswered are the ones about bad latency of EU server. Every single ticket is rejected with answer by ZoS: "It's your problem. Do not bother us."

We must put our heads together and try to solve the issue by ourselves.

My findings are:
1. Everyone reporting lag spikes/disconnects have his route trough opentransit.net
2. Everybody (including me) with this problem is claiming that problems started just after CWC update. We had no problems before.
3. A friend of mine has no latency problems at all, so I asked him to do a traceroute. His route goes trough aorta.net

Feel free to comment, add any findings you have or any possible solution we can try.

I don't know much about routing but afaik there is no way to change the route to a certain server. Hope I am wrong.

nothing else to say, you said all.

They are saying bs because i guess the prob is a bit annoying for them.
And i guess it could threaten if we realized that we could ask compensation under the law.. but im bad with law...

    Anyway as you said
    1- root prob come from opentransit.net [193.251.131.145]
    2-prob beginning with CwC
3- nothing that can be fix by us, since every other internet activities, as other games (LoL, cs-go) or DL, didnt change
4- ZOS support shown is disregard

    ...

Feel free to comment, add any findings you have or any possible solution we can try.

There is something I found out and gives me a lot of worries.

Riot server EUNE (League of Legends) is located in Frankfurt but the route to their server does not go trough opentransit.net. I have no problems with latency in LoL at all.

Eso EU server is located in Frankfurt and the route goes trough opentransit.net and I have a ton of lag spikes making my game unplayable.

I logged to Hearthstone after two years just for fun. The game was unplayable for me, constant disconnects and lag spikes. Hearthstone EU server is also located in Frankfurt and guess what? The route goes trough opentransit.net.

This being said, I fear that we judged Zeni too early.

Just tested Overwatch. Had big latency issues as well and traceroute reports our good old friend: opentransit.net

    Oh, sad.

The thing is : since we know the prob come from opentransit.net i never said that my prob and ZOS server are DIRECTLY connected... but !
The thing is : opentransit is a partner for the ZOS network (and apparently many other web "player"). And when we warn ZOS and his support they are just telling us "oh yeah, as usual fix it yourself, the root prob is on your side"'... well tell me how? that's wrong
That's their job to fix it nothing else.

I think ZOS server's route has changed and is therefore causing the ping problems for those outside of EU(West Asia/Africa etc)

I have been playing this game since One Tamriel and usually my ping remained between 150-200.
But as of late, it hardly, if ever, comes under 250.
And 40% of the times it is in red(above 300)

And NO, other games are working fine. So its not a case of "GIT GUT NET"

Earlier I used to be able to 1vX in Cyrodil, and occasionally beat capable higher CP players in duels.
But now none of them are possible and even a competent lower CP player can easily beat me.
And since this games does an absolute abysmal job of being a proper elder scrolls game for obvious reasons, PvP is the only reason I play it.

Somebody told me ZOS's EU servers are based in Frankfurt. Therefore, after testing some Frankfurt based servers on speedtest dot net
I have noticed that some Frankfurt servers like: Vodafone DE, DEAC, 23media GmbH, MBN etc are all giving WAY UNDER 200ms pings. With MBN being the lowest at what I consider beautiful 123ms.
Whilst servers like Softlayer Technologies Inc, Interoute VDC are always above 220.

I have also noticed that many other games that give me better pings are based around English Channel/Belgium etc. Which is their first European stop.
When I ran tracert on the zenimax's EU server. (195.122.154.1)
I found out that the ping spikes first at Palermo (226ms), and then makes a stop at Milan, before ending up in Frankfurt. After crossing Alps?

And I am not alone, as I have also seen other people complain about this very noticeable increase in latency on ESO only.
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/4661884/#Comment_4661884

Now I am no expert in this field. But I believe; Zenimax, or its Frankfurt hosts have changed something in their connection. Which is the reason of it all.
And I do hope they revert to the earlier system.

It looks like ZOS's EU ISP is playing games with ZOS.
And all the payers outside of europe from south africa to india are suffering.

Question is, is ZOS actually aware of this?
If yes than what is their plan?

Does it even matter if all the other games (DOTA, WoT) with EU servers are giving me at least 100ms less ping than ESO ALL THE TIME?
Does it even matter if most of the Frankfurt servers on the website speedtest.net are giving me great pings. Same pings that ESO gave me in the past?

World of Warcraft: 15ms ping !!!
ESO: when I'm lucky, it's under 100ms... rarely lately, more like 150ms all the time.

All other games are fine to. I have gigabit fiber, so the problem definitely doesn't come from my side.

lol im telling since the beginning that is not our computer and our router or anything that we can fix by ourself, thanks to read other topic. (hey wildcopper, welcome here :p )

Anyway, ppl that dont have done a pathping could you do it? Here the link if you dont know how to do it https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30903/kw/pathping

And tell us, what you see, if you dont understand anything just link the 2sd part of the pathping.
There is a lot of chance that your prob come from : frankfurt open transit.

If that is the case, your ISP is probably Orange or one of his filial.

    Because

the thing is, OTI (Open Transit Internet) is an Orange telecom filial.
@Olupajmibanan is orange slovakia, im orange france... check if your isp depend or not to orange.

    Then

The thing is, it's probably more effective if we all ask and warn our ISP than Zenimax
( @m@madeeh91rwb17_ESO , btw im in the same situation than you dude, im trying my best to find you a way to fix it, dont need to be rude, im not ZOS support :D) so yeah our ISP matter =)

Then why are most of the Frankfurt servers giving me normal ping that is at least 100ms lower than the current ZOS ping?

My friend who has a different ISP than me is facing the similar issue.

I dont really understand what you'r trying to say? what you propose?

Its Not because he has a different ISP that he doesnt passes through open.transit.

Did you do your TESO server pathping?
We need it. Just crying with absolutly no usefull information dont help, i hope you realize.

(btw me and @Olupajmibanan have different ISP, but same filliale, and same pathping, and same root prob. Im not looking for a simillar ISP for everyone, im just asking for each ISP that is concerned)

Contaced my ISP (Orange). They gave me backup route that does not include opentransit.net. My latency is now stable without peaks or disconnect. However they informed me that they will put me back on main route when they resolve the issue.

I also told them that players with Orange from other countries have issues with opentransit node as well. They told me that they will contact Orange France.

Please, contact your provider ao they can resolve this once for all :-).
