Magicka Dragonknight: General DPS increases?

InFernalEntity

✭✭✭
Current Setup:

Dark Elf. Vampire. 64 points in Magicka. Thief Stone.

2 piece Valkyn Skoria (Light)
5 piece Vicious Death (Light)
3 piece Willpower

All have + Max Magicka. Jewllery is 1x +Spell Damage 2x Reduce Spell Cost

All traits are Impenetrable.

Front Bar: Precise Inferno Staff

Burning Talons
Structured Entropy
Molten Armaments
Coagulating Blood
Burning Embers
Shatter Soul

Back bar: Precise Lightning Staff

Draw Essemce
Engulfing Flames
Eruption
Dampen Magicka
Scalding Rune
Shooting Star

Overall Training Dummy DPS: 14k

I want to increase my DPS so that I'm better in PVE and I haven't really played my MDK in a while so I have some questions:

Best PVE Replacement for VD?
Is there better Monster Helms for MDK than Skoria?
Would 4 piece Necro be better than 3 piece Willpower? (I'm not struggling for sustain so I mean in terms of Damage)
My rotation is mostly set up DoTs + weave Heavy Attacks, am I missing any abilities I might need?

Thanks in advance

There is massive arugement between Silks of the Sun and Burning Spellweave.

I think if you are a Dark elf then Silks of the sun is slightly better... because you are all fire damage.
Whille a High Elf mag Dk will mix fire and lightning making BSW better.

Overall it is a really small difference in dps between them.

Most people are using the apprentice stone now because the thief got savagely nerfed, but your Spell crit will be very very low with this set up.

I use Silks of the sun, Julianos, Slimeclaw shoulders. Apprentice stone. 63 points in mag and 1 in hp.. I use Witchmothers Brew drink... only 22K dps because I run out of magicka. :/. (21K with BSW instead)

Engulfing flames, Burning embers, Whip(or Lash), Wall of elements. Inner light, Dragonknight standard. Infused inferno staff.

Eruption, Rearming trap, Flames of oblivion, Elemental drain/Harness magicka, Moltern armaments, Elemental fury. Nirnhorned inferno staff.

You can get a big jump in dps by remembering to light attack between each skill.

I'll just list the changes that needs to be done lol:

Mundus: Lover for solo play, Apprentice for group play.

Gear: 5x Burning Spellweave is the way to go (with Silks you loose dps while pressing any synergie and some of your skills don't get buffed aswell)

Jewelry: Anything with Minor Slayer buff goes (trial sets for mag dds, and even in a blue quality). there is a tresshold whre you would better choose Willpower (don't remember exact number but its about 30k dps single target, so if you're doing less go for Willpower).

Enchantments: All body pieces max magicka, all jewelry spell damage (you can keep 1 recovery enchant on your jewelry if you cannot sustain anything)

Monster Sets: Grothdar - if you're melee, if not rerolling another class is way easier.

Weapons: Infused trait is BiS in most situations so go for it, if you want highest dps achievable you probably have to farm vet Maelstrom arena to get Maelstrom Inferno staff. If not just get some trial set staves that adds 4th bonus to your jewelry pieces. Double fire is way to go for mDK imo

Weapon Enchants: Fiery enchant main bar, Berserk backbar

Mandatory skills for mdk (this patch):
Flame Lash - main spam skill with nice selfheal and good damage, requires off-balance to proc.
Burning Embers - single target DoT, cheap and efficient, have a healing component if you cast it twice till duration ends.
Engulfing Flames - AoE DoT, game-changing ability which adds 10% damage done with fire for you and your groupmates to the target (while it is debuffed with this ofc).
Fire Blockade - Must have DoT for any magicka dd, crazy damage output, recovers some magicka if target dies while affected.
Eruption - nice AoE DoT with good damage and long duration.
Rearming Trap - additive DoT (used for buffing your crit damage only, dealing low damage on any magicka spec), widely used on magdk only because its a melee skill.
Inferno (damage morph) - single target DoT, after casting shoots 5 fireballs to any target in its range dealing good amount of damage.

Ultimate: Standard of Might - increases ALL your damage done while you're in it by 15% which is HUGE, decreases damage taken while in it by same amount (don't remember for sure) + its a big AoE DoT = mandatory

    Now some advices:
    1. New Clockwork Fillet gold food is the best choice but prices are biting so go for wichmothers potent brew if you can't afford it.
2.Get your health above 17k by putting some points in passives of heavy armor and undaunted. If still not enough use attribute points or enchants.
    3. Make sure you have a destro staff ability on each bar (no need to double slot) to get that extra 8% single target damage.
    4. Weave a light attack inbetween skills, they are contributing about 14% percent of your total damage (single target).
    5. Don't forget to keep Elemental drain up while testing your damage per second on a dummy.

I hope this wall of text will help ;)

I will leave this here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/309550/elemental-fury-pve-heavy-attack-dk-build-hotr-ready/p1

Basically what has been said is legit and one way (basically Alcasts build, inferno/inferno). I like Masel's one better due to better sustain and aoe damage.

2 Ilambris, 5 BSW/SoS/Julianos, 4 Martial Knowledge, 1 MA-Lightning staff on backbar. any charged lightning enchant staff on front bar. --> free and reliable off-balance for yourself, and still good support/damage in groups. Either HA the off-balanced enemy (if aoe) or whip+LA.
vMA did drop everything but a lightning staff for me, so I run martial knowledge lightning mainbar, but MA Resto backbar (for magicka return).

my whip hits for about 22K with crit, my embers for over 10K (initial hit). The rest is rotation and weaving which in itsself makes the difference between 15K and 25K. vMA staff adds at least another 3K DPS, more in aoe scenarios.

max level: mDK, stamBlade, stamSorc, magPlar, mDen, stamDen, magBlade, stamCro
    ESO+
    # of mules: 4 (FULL)
    maxed bank: FULL -_-
Stop the grind! Get rid of stupid events and daily-quest gallore. Get rid of "have a chance of 1 in a million to get a piece of 1 in 30 to get a stupid motif or pet... wtf..."
And at this point just remove all classes and have everyone choose their set of skills. then balance accordingly to skills always used vs. skills never used.

2 x Grothdarr (1x medium, 1 x heavy, alle divines and magicka enchanted), 5 x BSW (all divines and magicka enchanted), 4 x Aether/Moondancer (jewelry all with spell damage enchant), Moondancer/Aether lightning staff backbar (nirnhorned, weapon damage enchant), vMA Fire staff front bar (infused, schock enchant).

Frontbar: Engulfing Flames / Flame Lash / Burning Embers / Inner Light / Elemental Blockade / Standard of Might
Backbar: Harness Magicka (flex spot) / Flames of Oblivion / Eruption / Inner Light (flex spot) / Rearming Trap / Elemental Rage

For some encounters in VMoL you need chains and Deep Breath. Usually I would never unslot Harness Magicka, this skill is just too good in hard vet content be it raid or group.

Mundus: Lover (10 CPs in Spell Erosion are enough in a raid with full raid buffs and debuffs)
Food: Standard blue CP 150 health + magicka food

With CP 660 you are at over 17k health, over 18k with Ebon.

    Rota:

Potion -> Inner Light -> HA Flame staff attack -> Standard of Might

    LA -> Trap -> LA -> FoO -> LA -> Eruption -> bar swap cancel ->

LA -> Engulfing Flames -> LA -> Burning Ambers -> LA -> Elemental Blockade -> LA -> Flame Lash (at best as a Power Lash proc) -> LA -> FL -> LA -> FL -> LA -> FL -> LA -> FL -> LA -> Engulfing Flames -> LA -> Burning Ambers -> LA Elemental Blockade -> LA -> Flame Lash -> LA -> FL -> bar swap and continue on backbar again. Standard on cooldown.

This isn't that complex and brute force for raids (vMoL) where you have enough Lightning Walls and other shock glyph procs for the Unbalance effect to boost the Exploiter CP star and therefore Power Leash procs. In 4-man-stuff you should be fine with some Eledrain/bubble support and maybe by doing less Flame Lashes but a HA Lightning staff attack on the back bar.

A friend reached 52k dps raidbuffed on a raid centurio dummy, but ok he plays flawless and maybe had even some crit luck, but 45k+ raidbuffed dps should be possible on average.

I see a lot of mDKs with lightning back bar these days. Not sure why, though. To create more off balance and, therefore, more power lashes? To me, it seems like a waste for a Dunmer mDK.

Exactly, although it's maybe not just for yourself but for others in the raid or group. The build is raid centric. Elemental Blockade and all your strong fire dots and your spam skill are on your main bar with a fire staff, so you don't lose anything there. For even more off balance you do a shock glyph on your vMA fire staff. 10% more dps for everybody in your raid ? That's a damned lot.

The lightning staff is in addition a simple instrument for doing a heavy staff attack for loads of free AoE dps where you even get magicka back.

Thanks for the explanation! I don't have a vMA staff yet, so what would you suggest in its place until I do?

At best would be a BSW flame staff on mainbar and a Moondancer lighting staff backbar while you replace one BSW armor piece with a Moondancer armor piece. So you have a 5 piece set bonus BSW on your front bar and a 5 piece set bonus Moondancer on your backbar (grab a synergy when you are there).

If you lack vMA, Moondancer and BSW staffs, but you have the jewelry from Aether/Moondancer, take a random staff. At least you can craft it and use a motif style you like .-)
