ESO is awesome

I have been playing ESO on my Xbox since 2015 and for the most part loving it. However after much pleading my son convinced me to try another game based on a favorite horror franchise of mine from my youth involving a hockey mask and a certain day of the week.

I realized after a few short rounds of dealing with clunky non responsive controls, truly poor design decisions, horrible graphics, and a non-existent community that ESO is still the awesome game that has kept my interest for over 2 years.

Has anyone else had a similar experience out there that made you stop and place all the quibbling "I'd like to see this" or "why did they change that" type of concerns in perspective?

Funny that you say this but everytime I play a game other than ESO, I am amazed how few issues I have. The clunky, non-responsive controls and poor design decisions (Looking at you user interface) are all glaring issues in the Xbox version of ESO for me. I mean, look at how synergies rarely ever work and the unwieldy way we have to hit them just as an example, or that the same button to bring you out of menu phases is the same button that declines a ready check for a dungeon. I could go on for pages. I still always come back to ESO because I love the universe and still find some content to be very fun and rewarding but I usually have the exact opposite reaction when playing a different game.

Edit: Eso is the ONLY Xbox game i own that makes the stuttering noise, freezes, and takes me to the Xbox dashboard frequently. Have had it happen RARELY in other games but with ESO it's at least once per play session without fail.

Yes they are finally looking into them after the game has been out for 2 and a half years on Xbox.

@ArchMikem Thank you and yes ESO is far from perfect still lots of things that need work, but still a great game. Glad to see other people see that too.

Yeah ESO is a good game, and here on the forums ZOS doesn't always get the credit it should for the overall product. ESO is a large and complex MMO and all things considered ZOS did a good job. Like pretty much any other online game of the modern era, there are always tweaks, fixes, and balancing that must be done. That's just the normal course for a game of this nature.

I also don't know of any other developer that took a game on the scale of ESO and successfully transferred it to consoles like ZOS did. The full game (minus some small things like addons) is the same game console players get to enjoy. Those playing on Xbox One X and with a 4k tv are even getting a better graphical (maybe even performance) experience than those running the game on an older or less robust spec'd PC.

I absolutely hated, hated, hated it. I deleted that sucker came running back to ESO so fast....

Yes it's true. Also ZOS has achieved many great things with the game. Mainly due to actually listening to community feedback, they have managed to change core mechanics like the leveling and gearing systems.

I honestly have a hard time playing anything besides ESO currently, don't get me wrong FFXIV and GW2 have the communities I wish ESO had, because the toxicity is almost nonexistent, but it terms of fun ESO has both of those games beat.

"While the sharp objects along a rose stem are commonly called "thorns", they are technically prickles—outgrowths of the epidermis (the outer layer of tissue of the stem). (True thorns, as produced by e.g. Citrus or Pyracantha, are modified stems, which always originate at a node and which have nodes and internodes along the length of the thorn itself.) "

It's all personal experience. I (in 3 years) have only had a handful of 'toxic' encounters on ESO.

Been playing for almost a year. I’ve TRIED playing other games due to the fact I’ve became very obsessed with ESO. But still can’t stay away lol. I love playing with other people, love the graphics, and being able to personalize my characters just the way I want them. I agree, ESO is awesome.

Does that game have millions of players playing at the same time? Perhaps some game servers work better because their population is a lot less and probably a lot less graphically intense than ESO.

Their lack of testing, bug fixing & guild/community options is the real shame about ESO, and it has cost them a considerate player base that they would have otherwise had.

I love the art, story, and game definitely has a community but now that I have 10 or so lvl 50's because I couldn't find a single DPS class I enjoyed playing end game I am starting to have trouble logging in at all. Skills, skill choice, and armor sets are incredibly bland and light hvy attack weaving make the game one of the most repetitive and monotonous I have ever played (20 solid years now in mmo's). I feel the game forces you to play with skills, sets, and even races you have 0 interest in or don't bother playing the most important part of MMO (endgame content). I have never rolled a tank in any MMO ever until this one out of desperation trying to find the one class that would keep me here since I have way too much money and time invested in this one to just bounce. There is a lot of variety in the game as far sets but just like the small amount of viable skills to choose from 95-98% of them suck by default numbers or mechanics of the set.

It's a good game for what it is, but feels like just another story mode only, and move on similar to SWTOR.

I tried Dungeons & Dragons Online, then I have returned with more love for ESO than ever. D&DO is a great game with dedicated support of loving fans, but very hard to master. It would take me ages just to figure out what's going on with huge and quite complex interface, since it's originally a 2006 game but still maintained and updated with sequels and latest techs. I finished early quests, some dungeons and finally saw some cities, but still felt clueless. Might try it again some day. Definitely has that TES3: Morrowind vibe. Thumbs up!

And oh, I'm an ES fan for life, can't take that out of me. :)

I agree, OP. I've played since the PC Beta, and when the Console version released, I moved to the Xbox One.

A short while back, I took a 3-4 month break from the game due to a bit of minor burn out. (it happens when you play one game for 3+ years straight...)

During that break, I went back to some of my more beloved MMORPG's on the PC (FFXIV, LotRO, GW2, WoW, and EQ2) and while I loved them, I decided to give some other MMORPG's a try on the Xbox.

I have to say, the "new" MMO's on the Xbox... suck, and they suck badly, in comparison to ESO.

After ESO; their graphics suck, the controls feel slow and cumbersome, the character customization is -HALF- of what ESO allows (and that's being generous), the item sets are nowhere -NEAR- as varied or useful, the Skills/Abilities are very uninspired... there's a whole slew of new MMORPG's out on the market, and for parity, all of them were released after ESO came to the Consoles.

But all of those "New" MMORPG's are just... pale imitations of what ESO offers, and offers for free. ESO has it's issues, sure. Every game does.

But the value of what you get with ESO, for the price tag that Zenimax asks... you won't find a better "New" MMO on the market than ESO. Those older PC-only MMORPG's that I mentioned earlier, they still hold up. They're still great, and these "New" MMORPG's don't even hold a candle to them either.

So when I finally got fed up and signed in to ESO again, (I know it sounds cliche) I had a feeling that I was back home. I really had no idea how much I missed everything about ESO until I came back to it after trying those other newer MMORPG's.

ESO is truly one of the best MMORPG's on the market right now, and with the steaming piles of crap that other companies are releasing, ESO is going to have a good strong run for years to come. Aside from older MMORPG's, there's no MMORPG better than ESO in my opinion.

Definitely; ESO, WoW, LotRO, GW2, and FFXIV, are simply the best MMORPG options around. Everything else just... doesn't cut it, and all these new MMORPG's are severely lacking in every aspect when compared to older "tried-and-true" MMO's that have been around for 5+ years.

So, I'll be staying in Tamriel for quite a few years to come.

I recently took about 2 months off (playing since beta). Got about halfway through Witcher 3 on PC and Zelda on my switch. Both are excellent games, but I couldn't stay away. This has become a constant theme for me since I started playing ESO. I am typically a competitionist boarding on the absurd, but lately I seem to bail on other games at about the halfway mark.

When the server hamsters are on point, ESO is the best combat I have ever played.

Hahaha!!! Overwatch...COMPLETELY different game genre (MOBA). You don't have 50 players all running around casting stuff. You have MAYBE 8 players max. Of course it's going to be better. There's a lot less going on around you.
