idk about lore fitting but around when the crown store first came out i bought the generic housecat and its still the only pet i ever have my characters use lol.

Well it really depends on what I have since there isn't much

While I like non-combat pets in general, there's really only a few I'd keep around.
Namely, the Colovian Badger, the Brassilisk, and the dwemer spider.

Not exactly lore-fitting, but each one of my characters has their own pet, which I don't change.

Generally by theme, like my healer uses the imga-kin beta pet because it fits with monks, temples, and the like. My ashlander has a mudcrab bc of Skar the giant mudcrab, my Daedric summoner has a Daedrat to go with his clanfear. Mostly by theme tho, sometimes rp reasons.

I tend to change the pets with the terrain. In snowy places like Wrothgar, I'd have a pet that looks like it won't freeze to death there, like my sabre cat cub. I'll also change my character's clothes according to weather/terrain, as well. I guess I like that little bit of immersion.

My magicka NB argonian(black with red eyes and white skull facepaint and body highlights, I've been told I look like a demon cow at least a dozen times) has used, in order: The banded guar charger, the pale velothi guar, and now the hearthfire kaguti. His pets have been the scuttler, the ancestor lizard, the pony guar, and now the hearthfire kaguti pet.

My dragonknight argonian has only used the hearthfire set.

My healer (a white-mage archetype argonian) only uses the velothi guar and pony guar pet.

I never have a pet out. Now that we have housing my pets remain at home.

If it fits my characters backstory... I give them a fitting pet.

Mostly I don't have them run around with it though, because my characters are generally poor adventurers who don't take their pets with them to be squished underfoot by some troll, but leave them at home where they keep the skeevers from nomming all the provisioning ingredients...

I prefer my goat and senche as pets, i dress my characters mostly in white or black, so its the white goat for my white dressed chars and black senche for my black dressed chars....

Else my main (vampire melee magblade in a soul shriven cloak) would use the blue baby betty netch.

My alt (Bowtard) uses the thievesguild dog thing

Well it really depends on what I have since there isn't much

I only have a few that i like and most of the time i choose the pets for my characters when they fit in their color scheme :'D
In example my healer uses a white goat because she is white/blue/black colored lol xD

I used to use lizardy ones - as my main is argonian, it's mount is a guar, and I wanted to keep the theme going.

Now I use Ancestor Moths, because I switched to them to see what they look like and never got around to changing back to a lizard.

Might try brassilisk soon...

I never used pets, but ever since the Seht’s Dovah Fly came out I’ve been using it, it fits the personality of my character and also it’s one of the only pets that don’t annoy me. For some reason it annoys me when something is running around near my legs. However, this one is flying and I’m happy to have it around me.

My Bosmer travels around with a Bear "Dorothy" and her Cub "Paddington". A Bosmer Bear Mount might be a bit too much lore wise, but I figured nature lover so why not.

Who needs pets? I have no use for them, and when I get them in a crown crate I just wanna cry, I have loads...and none of them hardly get to see the light of day. haha

I usually try to make them fit the class, but my favorite pet is the Bantam Quar. It’s too stinkin’ cute and his name is “Squee”
