I don't see why BASIC different mounts are available via the stablemasters already locked behind paywalls--for example, the stablemaster in Vivec City could sell (for gold) a basic guar. That doesn't seem like it would cut down on the bottom line at all, is already behind a paywall, etc. etc. Wouldn't need to be every DLC, but maybe every chapter?

There should be a basic style of racial mounts available at stables in each race's zone - Orc mounts in Orc lands, Dunmer mounts in Dunmer lands, and so on. Spiffy variants would still be available only from the crown store.

Absolutely there should be in game earnable mounts. They are a huge source of revenue in the crown store, and exclusive store mounts will still be a big seller. But mounts we can earn through farming dungeons, achievements, crafting, are among the many things that keeps an mmo enjoyable at end game

Those answers are awfully long winded and bias for a simple "yes" or "no"
Anyway, I'm okay with some pets and mounts being unlockable and earnt. I like ZoS making a limited free pet and mount over this month (Brassilisk, and soon Nix Hound mount.)

But so far, the minimum requirement to at least be able to ride a mount without spending IRL moolah is 10'000 gold, which is intimidating for a brand new player, but should be a milestone for them to make it there. Besides, money eventually becomes super easy and fast to make. 10k is a joke later on.

Beyond that, everything else is only aesthetically different. The Sorrel horse for 10k is just as effective as the Chroma-Blue Dwarven Spider mount that was buyable for 4000 crowns for 5 days, or the very rare Frost Draugr Senche mount in the Reaper's Crown Crates. They look incredibly different but identical in performance for ya.

So my YES comes with two important caveats:
1.) Any other free mounts should not be any more interesting than the buyable horses. They need to be as bland and generic versions of their races as possible, to maintain the aesthetic appeal of IRL paid alternatives. (The Free Nix Ox mount is a good example of this, and will be a limited free mount coming up.)

2.) Gold and/or Achievement locked (preferably both). Salty, biased voting poll options aside, the fact of the matter is that the 10k Sorrel horse is all you really NEED. The rest should be earnt with tougher objectives. I think the other 3 bought horses need some extra requirements besides the 42k+ gold price tag to help spice up their interest.

You mean the way we should have gotten the legendary white bear mount at the end of the Wrothgar DLC quest line that featured it, but we got costumes instead?

Yes I'd like to earn a mount reward at the end of an extended chain of quests. None of that funny RNG business though.

For the record, no one is forced to spend $20 on a mount or $100 on a house. Strongly encouraged, yes, but not forced.

I like the idea of class mounts that have really long hard/group required quests. Like the Lock and Pally mounts in WoW were.
