That is just amazing. I've known about the Lore behind Baar Dau just obliterating Vivec City at some point but I never had an idea what the effects looked like, but whoever was behind the World Map render of the Mod Beyond Skyrim made it look like this and JESUS, that freakin' Impact Crater! There's just nothing left of the region. Judging by the scale, that's Vivec City, Suran, Seyda Neen, and from what I remember Vivec's new Ebonheart just gone.

....kinda makes me want there to have been an optional choice at the end of the Questline to just not give Vivec his energy back and skip town to watch the Fireworks. ( <---obligatory ESO reference so this isn't locked for being unrelated)

"Discoverd late in the 5th era by drilling, the crater has been found to be linked with the disappearance of the cliff racers, nix hounds, nix oxen and other unique animals present in Vvardenfell, as well as the disappearance of Nirnroot from the rest of Tamriel. The strata in Tamriel show increased levels of ordinatorium and armigerium at this time, as well as a thin layer of soot."

Spoilers for Morrowind and DLCs below.

The depressing thing is that if Vivec had been a tiny less arrogant and willing to let go of the symbol of his power literally hanging over the heads of his people, Vvardenfell might not have been destroyed in Red Year. If Almalexia had been a little more willing to accept the loss of her godhood, she might have guided House Hlaalu and King Helselth into responding appropriately to the coming crises instead of abandoning them, resulting in the dissolution of House Hlaalu. There's no lore on what happens to the Clockwork City after Sotha Sil dies, but after what we see of his hands-off management strategy in the Clockwork City DLC, I'm not sure how well the place functions without him for very long.

Personally, I suspect the Nerevarine figured out that everything was going to go down soonish and hightailed it off to Akavir before anyone tried to make it his/her problem to solve.

Vivec's Vanity caused the deaths of thousands and Almalexia caused the fall of Dunmer society? Sounds so juicy considering my utter disdain for the Dunmer and the Tribunal. It's ironic too considering Sotha Sil seems to have been the only sane one of the three that recognized what happened during the moment of their gaining "divinity" was wrong and he devoted himself to understanding the world, instead of wanting to be worshiped through a facade. Then Almalexia goes and kills him. Of course.

I found a fan made map of the 4th Era showing the Dunmer still trying to inhabit parts of Vvardenfell around Gnisis and Balmora. Is that true in the Lore?

Let's be clear- Sotha Sil was no sweetheart, either. While he was not egotistical enough to go "Love me or else!", his efforts to "better understand the world" involved things like taking three revered Dunmer saints and trapping their souls inside mechanical bodies, then hiding them away for years in an asylum to slowly go insane (the rest of the world thought they were dead), and, in further research of immortality, being involved in the effort to reverse-engineer soul gems to come up with the black soul gem (so says the loading screen into Asylum). Y'know, the creation which allowed enchanters to trap their fellow man/mer/beastfolk's souls in crystal for all eternity.

Did he realize the end was coming? Yes, perhaps by all accounts he did. But some might argue that his obsession with immortality and making himself more perfect was an effort to find a backup plan for when the Heart was eventually destroyed. He certainly didn't spend that time caring for the people of Clockwork City.

(Having met the members of the Tribunal in-person and seeing some of their dirty laundry, even my Dunmer is feeling seriously disillusioned. The rest of my toons are going "And you folks actually worship them somewhat willingly?")

My Dunmer worships Azura, even though she is not an Ashlander. She can't stand the 3 frauds.

I hated them in TES3 and really dislike them in ESO. But in the way that I like that I hate them. Because they stole divinity killed nerevar and forced the dunmer to worship them. Killing everyone who they branded a heretic.

I'm not sure. Maybe? Balmora's far enough from Vivec, and the topography is such that it might have survived impact. Gnisis seems plausible. But, I can't remember any discussion of Vvardenfell being inhabited in the 4th era at all. Raven Rock was getting supplies from Blacklight and Windhelm.

Gnisis is pretty close to Blacklight, so if one's habitable, they both might be.

Balmora's more of a question. If the destruction of Suran and Pelagiad is accurate, then Balmora's far enough north that it could have survived (with severe damage), and could have been recolonized after the fact. I'm just not sure if there's any outright support for that.

Balmora might have another issue. If Caldera went when Red Mountain errupted in The Red Year, it's entirely possible the city would have ended up in the path of a magma flow. Now, that would have primarily followed the Odai River, and probably wouldn't have completely destroyed the city, but I doubt it would be particularly inhabitable by 4e200. Still, it is possible. (This might also be an issue for Maar Gan and Khuul.) (Both are very close to one magma flow path from Red Mountain.)

The other one that I'd stick a question mark on is Molag Mar. It's possible that the canton survived, and was recolonized, but it could also have been destroyed, depending on just how large the blast was when Baar Dau hit.

    EDIT: Typo
