Bleed 101: Basic Mechanics and Questions

Hi Y'all - so I have my own assumptions on the following but wanted to submit them here for insights from our community's more scrutinizing players re mechanics.

BLEED!

Does it Crit? Do those Crits proc other mechanics like crit surge.
What is bleed's relationship to player/monster resistances (how does it calculate vs. them?)
What are bleeds interactions with damage shields?
How does bleed scale? Is WPN dmg or max resources more important in scaling up its dmg?
Are all bleed effects purge-able?
On DW builds are 2 x Axes ideal or is there a mechanic at play like in previous patches where dagger/axe results in the optimal dps + bleed? What would y'all choose & why?

Thanks in advance,
The Drakk

Does it Crit? Do those Crits proc other mechanics like crit surge.
Yes it can crit (But certain item sets that causes bleed-damage can´t crit)
What is bleed's relationship to player/monster resistances (how does it calculate vs. them?
Bleed-damage ignores all kinds of resistance (not 100% sure about critical resistance), that´s the beauty of it
What are bleeds interactions with damage shields?
Damage shields will mitigate the bleed-dot
How does bleed scale? Is WPN dmg or max resources more important in scaling up its dmg?
All bleed-damage are considered physical damage over time effects so I would say: Thamaturge, weapon-damage, mighty and max stamina
    Are all bleed effects purge-able?
    Yes
On DW builds are 2 x Axes ideal or is there a mechanic at play like in previous patches where dagger/axe results in the optimal dps + bleed? What would y'all choose & why?

This one is tricky but I´ll try to explain it as proper as I can: Never go with 2 axes if dualwielding. The game doesn´t consider each bleed from each axe as seperate bleeds, and will therefor override eachother (in worst case the can sort of "negate" eachother causing you to get 0 bleed damage). Example:

    * You light attack with axe #1 and apply bleed #1
    * After 2 seconds bleed #1 will do it´s bleed-tick (there´s no "0-tick" when the bleed is applied as far as I know)
    * Let´s say that you do another light-attack with axe #2 at the 2 second mark and apply bleed #2, instead of applying a new bleed, the bleed damage is refreshed and you get a new "0-tick". Conclusion: Never use 2 axes.

If I´ve got something wrong please feel free to correct me.

Bleeds crit, and the damage ticks proc other effects that have a chance to proc based on damage.

Bleeds completely bypass mob resistance. It's a very strong option unless a significant chunk of resistance is removed from the target. Even then it's still a somewhat strong damage source.

Shields take the bleed damage rather than a player.

Bleeds scale with weapon damage and max resources.

One axe +one dagger tends to be a little stronger against a single target than two axes. As the chances of applying a bleed are increased, so are the chances of redundant bleeds that cancel out the first bleed.

People have said that axes are only good for single target DPS, though I believe they're very strong for AOE DPS. Just spam an AOE like steel tornado a few times in a giant group of mobs, the bleed from a single axe will be several percent of the total DPS dealt, way stronger than a dagger's contribution.

A lot of people get this wrong. Bleeds go through shields

I was thinking of this old post:

Where a bleed that was already applied started to eat a shield after it went up. Maybe things are different now?

so Greataxe has a better chance to proc a bleed? Interesting

Sarcasm is something too serious to be taken lightly

I was born with the wrong sign
    In the wrong house
    With the wrong ascendancy
    I took the wrong road
That led to the wrong tendencies
I was in the wrong place at the wrong time
For the wrong reason and the wrong rhyme
On the wrong day of the wrong week
Used the wrong method with the wrong technique

No - All axes have the same chance to proc a bleed, regardless if its a 2h axe or a 1h axe.

    BONUS ROUND:

Does the charged trait increase the application of the axe bleed passive? Does it help with bleed at all?

Nope, I tried, it doesn't work on bleeds. It works on poison and elemental effects from proc sets and enchantments...*and skills*
