Combat Companions?

I was thinking recently and I am curious. What would you guys think of combat-based companions or even pets? Now, granted they won't be allowed in group content (Craglorn, Trials, and Group Dungeons) and obviously not allowed in Cyrodiil and Imperial City, but in all of the normal zones stuff, what would you think? These companions could be simple NPCs like a simple healer, knight, archer, etc who are there to be a little extra help or could even be quest specific NPCs that you have befriended in your travels (and if it makes sense why they would travel with you) and may have some unique lines about different locations and quests you do... That sort of stuff.

Granted, these NPCs must have been combat NPCs for you during quests at one point in time so their AI data would already be made and can be used easily. Plus it means that you have gotten use to them or gotten some enjoyment from having them around...

I wouldn't care about them personally too much and at most, I may use a healer on my tanks and such. But what about you guys? Any NPC you gotten a likeness to or would you like to have an extra man backing you up?

Two classes in this game have combat pets. Adding pets to all classes would take away the uniqueness of the sorcerer & warden.
The pve content is easy enough without the aid of a mercenary npc at your side. Just my opinion of course.

The idea is mostly for solo players who mind their own business most of the time. The NPC will provide companionship more so than actual combat help.

You can get plenty of companionship from the banker or merchant tagging along at your heels.

I would actually love these. Tank, DPS, or healer. Do you do get them during certain quests, but it's limited to those quests only.

Only if they are more useful than the 5 Companions.

Lyris Titanborn, greatest warrior of the empire - can't tank, light attacks her way through fights
Sai Sahan, former sword singer - light attacks his way through fights
Abnur Tharn, Imperial Battlemage - can't heal, light attacks his way through fights

No wonder these people needed the Vestige to help them out!

I wish I could have a tank to do dungeons with. I also would like to be able to tell him to stand on a plate so that I can go stand on the other plate. Then, I'd like to have a healer and not have to log in online to play.

I would if they were reasonably priced but they are overpriced services.

NO! Try doing the main story quest with Lyris Trollborn, or Fighters Guild quests with Seeps-all-Colors always in the way of what you're trying to target and add that to all the game play.
I'm not prejudiced; I hate everyone equally !

Lilith Tortorici - DC templar trials healer

    Notable Completions:
vAS (72k), vMoL HM (160k), vAA HM (135k), vHRC HM, vSO HM (141k), vHoF HM (168k), vCR+3(129k), vDSA 45k, vMA 591k

    Original Addons:
    Lilith's Group Manager
    Lilith's Lazy Hacks - Auto Recharge/Repair

True! Back in the pre-One Tamriel days, a friend and I quested all the way through the Ebonheart Pact, Coldharbor, and Daggerfall Covenant together. He was a stamina nightblade Argonian DPS and I was a magicka dragonknight dunmer tank, so any content we would struggle to complete, we just teamed up and it went perfectly. I'd tank so he didn't die, and he'd kill things quickly where it would have taken me forever.

    I think...
...they are hardly worth the aggrivation and extra lag!

If you want to play with pets out, there's sorceror and warden. There also might be other options in the future, in some way (though I still hope they would not just add more classes, but do them in some way that -every- character chan enjoy if they so choose... like the class morph idea I had, or something similar - beast tamer guild DLC or whatever...)

But not without the same drawback sorcs and wardens face - giving up a skill slot for their combat pet somewhere.
Lyris Titanborn, greatest warrior of the empire - can't tank, light attacks her way through fights
Sai Sahan, former sword singer - light attacks his way through fights
Abnur Tharn, Imperial Battlemage - can't heal, light attacks his way through fights

...haven't you noticed yet? they are intentionally holding back and letting you do all the work, because they are all lazy bums way too close to retirement age... also, Lyris and Sai are too busy glancing at each other when they think noone notices, and Abner... is hanging back so he can slink away in the event of things looking to go badly... :p;)

Make companions and then adding solo dungeon/trial version, then you can do it with your AI companion

    sounds good to me :)

I have mixed feelings on this, my biggest eyesore is that would this mean having to watch them replay the same attack animation over and over again like most of our combat pets do already?

Like literally for hours, each day, week, month... year, I am tired of watching the scamp go "zap zap" and Twilight (disappears behind me anyway)... I see the new attacks that they added to the game to existing creatures and wonder why mine look so boring still. :/

They don't suck, they are just boring!

If you can't kill a boss alone just sit and wait for someone with a better build to come along and shoot once before it dies.

I like the idea. It'd basically double your party size. Customization options would be dope too.

Oh well, we can dream lol

I think you're missing the idea. It has nothing to do with having problems killing or doing any kind of content. The game is pretty easy when it comes to the main zone content.

Join a guild. Stop being unsociable and make at least one friend in the game. Now you have a free companion who can talk to you and keep the game flowing. There’s several people who I’d consider some of my very best friends IRL that I’ve never even met aside from playing with them in ESO.

I run a guild, am in other guilds, and have plenty of friends who helps me from time to time with world bosses or group up with me for dungeon queues. If you're just going to make this kind of "argument", please just don't post. It's not really an argument since it should already be assumed that you have some sort of friends or socialization going on if you're playing an MMO.

I love the system in SWOTR but that game was build up from the ground with those companions in mind. It would have to be done really, really well. If they are just plain useless or bug out half of the time there would be no point.
And for people whining on about "just make friends": it takes all kinds. Just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't mean you have ram the judgement hammer down. It's not high school, people are allowed to be different.

It's amazing reading these old comments. I wonder how these people feel about companions now?
