Buff scathing mage set ( it NEEDS it )

A once great set which was bis for mag sorcs and magblades ( non pet force pulse builds ) has now become one of worst dps sets in game.

Why? Not because it has bad bonuses not because it has low spell damage proc but because it hardly EVER procs.

Hotr we all lost a bit of crit so any set that had to crit to proc took a baby nerf like night mothers. Thats a baby nerf because nightmother has impeccable uptime. But for scathing mage this destroyed the set.

Scathing mage can only proc if the direct damage you do is a crit and that gives it a CHANCE to proc. This is very bad for the set and balance. The average crit for a mage this patch is 45%-60%. Which makes it very hard to proc scathing even with a force pulse build which is sad because force pulse gives 3 chances to proc it not including weapon enchantment.

So the thing never procs and something should be done i think this set can still be great for magwardens mag sorcs and magblades depending on what abilities you use.

Never in my eso lifetime did i think one day julianos will give better dps for a magblade :( .

I think i have a pretty balanced suggestion to what can be done.

Keep everything the same but let it proc of just direct damage or just crit.

For example it would say when dealing direct damage you have a 15-20% chance to increase damage by 530 for 6 seconds

Or when dealing critical damage you have a 15-20% chance to gain 530 spell dmg.

Either one of thise will buff the uptime and make it viable without making everythint else unbalanced.

This set is a classic lets bring it back im tired of seing julianos everywhere i like crafted sets and all but there are supposed to be better sets out there that you can farm if julianos is best whats the point?

I see your point, but I will never complain about a crafted set that performs so well that it's not worth spending hours on end farming gear for a 1% increase in damage potential.

In theory, CWC restored this set to some usefulness for magblades -- if you have a Perfect Asylum Destro staff. Blockade + Force Pulse + PAD staff = on-demand AOE direct damage, just like the good old days of Twisting Path.

But I don't have a PAD staff, so that's just a theory for now.

Hardley proc? It does proc as long as i'm concern, i use it on my magicka warden with about as low crit % as 42%, out of a session on traiing dummy for 90-92 seconds to kill it, up time was 53% (9 procs), that is with low crit % on my toon. And so far SM beats on my side, Julianos, Necropotence and the new CWC Mecanical Aquity set. to be honest in order it's SM, then MEcanical Aquity then Necropotence, as for julianos, i dunno haven'T tried it for a while and was doing poor on my side back then.

So if it can procs every 6 seconds (which is almost the same Cooldown you get on most proc such, or close to it) means for a 92 seconds fight it can procs up to 15 times, that is with a 100% chances of proc and back to back, which is impossible (set as a 20% chance), i got 9 procs out of 15 possible ones (if proc was 1000% again), i'm bad at math, but that gives me a 60% proc chances i got.

I think the fletcher flies count as direct damage on a Warden.

50% uptime is bad and it aint even that i have 58% crit with my mag blade and i use force pulse rotation and i get horrible uptime. I have parsed with both julianos and scathing mage julianos has 2-3k more dps

You need an uptime of approximately 58% for it to be equal to Julianos. This translates to needing 1.3 direct damage attacks per second with a critical chance of 64% (theif mundus, scathing, 3 piece infallible, major prof) to have an uptime of 60% and an average spell damage of 304. In short it isn't really worth it now that twisting path doesn't proc it. Julianos is just so much more consistent.
Edit: i forgot to update my calculations for the increased amount of crit that set bonuses give so the critical chance with those criteria is 66% which makes you need 1.2 direct damage attacks per second to get slightly below julianos at 298.6 average spell damage.
as a side note, when maxing out crit with another 2 set bonuses of crit, minor prof, and precise weapons you reach 84% crit and only need 1 attack per second to reach 305 average spell damage. However you are probably loosing out on too much in doing this.
