Prevent stealing option

Getting a Bounty because I accidentally miss-clicked when trying to turn in a quest is obnoxious. I’d like to see a “prevent harming innocents” option for stealing. “Prevent stealing”.

I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t accidentally steal things off of the store counter when I go to say “hello, I’d like to pay for this” to the cashier at the store. There’s no reason that needs to happen in ESO.

I hate this also. Handing in writs or clicking on Guild Traders makes me more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

    It exists check your options

Isn't it actually the default and you enable it when you enable auto loot?

That's only for containers. Things out in the open, like stew, apples, etc automatically get picked up

And that means it takes multiple actions to seal something. With the setting to not auto loot you do not automatically loot an item from a container with one key press.

There is a setting for not auto-looting thing in containers if they are stolen.

However, apples and other small items left out on counters and shop wagons are apparently irresistible to Elder Scrolls characters and the guards aren't interested in mealy-mouthed excuses like "I was just looking at it while I tired to talk witht he merchant!"

No, one mis-click and its all "Stop right there, criminal scum!"

Just stop violating the law, or simply pay the court a fine or serve your sentence!

But seriously I couldn't agree more. That it is actually possible to accidentally steal something is a ludicrous feature in the game. Have done this a number of time also and each time Im close to facepalming.

If you're on PC, the No Accidental Stealing addon is fantastic. By default it will keep you from stealing something unless you are either in stealth, or holding a separate key to bypass the feature. It won't save you if you get detected as you try to loot the item, but it will save you from accidentally hoovering up any unattended booze like a Nord on vacation.

    Get Azurah.

Must have add on that has the feature to prevent stealing.

Huh... I've used AUI, for most of my basic interface needs. I might need to take a look at that.

I also hate when the merchant stands right at the table. Dunno how many times I have clicked him/her while attempting to click on the crafting table.

I REALLY hate the 5 companions quests where you have to move around your train of followers until you can click on the quest giver. Annoys the crap out of me trying to find Kasura.

But with the thieving thing - it really is a *small* bounty and no big deal UNLESS your pockets are full of other ill-gotten gains ...

So don't walk around with a backpack full of stolen items and then act all innocent when your sticky fingers act of their own accord :-)

I've accidentally clicked on a lockbox in the Daggerfall bank because the banker started walking at just the wrong time, accidentally grabbed the pile of gold off the Vvardenfell banker's desk, picked up the swords at the Craglorn writ dropoff, and that's just for starters. It's particularly frustrating when you have several improperly-acquired items in your inventory, and you end up losing them because you accidentally snatched 9 gold pieces.

Good to know there's an addon for this, but our friends on the console side need a fix as well.

If you're like me the add ons you use all just provide features that should've been in the base game. Awesome guild store, dressing room, swap skills continued, MM, azurah and many more are my go tos.

What ZOS needs to do is actually implement these functionalities into the base game. This goes for preventing theft as well, ridiculous that there's an option to prevent accidental killing but not for theft. There needs to be both.

I love how turning in my writs always leads to a bounty because of all the steal-able crap spewed around the crates. Great design really.

The confirmation extra click to steal from containers is exactly what is also needed to pick up a stolen item that is sitting out in the open. This would be wonderful (and I suspect easy/minor) thing to provide.

there was already a thread on this and someone pointed out if that usually you are looking low if you accidently steal. look at the eyes, not the chest.
