QoL suggestion change survey location to writ drop off zone

When OneT dropped I was all for exploring zones I hadn't been too. But its gotten old now, spending an hour every week or so running around locating Survey locations.

With the change in CWC coming (Console) couldn't we specify that you get the survey for the zone you drop off in. It would save hours of dull play, and I can't really see a downside (obviously most would favour Craglorn again for Nirncrux chance but still.

I'd support this, it takes so long getting all those surveys...
Collecting them in one zone again, would really be an improvement.

This would be another really nice QoL change. Hope the devs pick up on it.

I completely agree! It was a nice idea at the time to get players moving throughout the zones but like the OP said it has gotten very old. I almost don't even bother with writs because of how annoying it is running all across the world to pick surveys up.

ZOS, please make survey locations ONLY drop for the zone in which you decide to turn them in! Crafting is already such a huge time sink the least you could do is make surveys quick and easy for us.

They could also try to stack ressource gain if you have multiple writs for the same position. So if you have 10 surveys for one location you get ten time the ressources when you collect it while consuming all of them at once (instead of looting 10 times one survey while running around in between). Would save a lot of time running back and forth to let them respawn without changing anything at the resource-gain.

I guess those two changes would make me really happy when i decide to collect them, instead of getting bored when i think about it :/

So most would still choose to go to Belkarth, the changes that were made so that you can drop off your writs in any zone was more than likely made to save on server overload of the amount of people with max crafting hitting Craglorn everyday at peak time, what your suggestion would do is make that even worse as my (and everyone else's) toons with low level crafting would also be hitting Craglorn to hand in writs for greater chances of Cloth, Smithing and Woodworking surveys.

opposed. go explore. you can bank these. do it on a different toon. do something else while you are in that zone

just today i went grabbed the surveys for the zone where my fighters guild quest is. did both. found some more mage books (since i dont cheat with the addon) and hit mage guild 10.

There are people who play this game for more than 3 years now...we don't need any quest/skyshards/books in the older zones anymore and maybe don't care about such things on alts...
We also explored all zones years ago, why should we do this again every 2...3 weeks? I don't see a point in it...
It would be an improvement for those who just want to get the materials without taking anything away for anyone else...

People did not spread out to complete writs, they just moved to another town. It did not save serverload at all....just moved it somewhere else...

Agreed @supaskrub easy fix tho, turn off Nirncrux drop on surveys. I'd be ok with that given right now Craglorn are 1 in 30 anyway!

@Slick_007 I'm one of the last people to be told to explore, I do everything, never grind, every Alt I take through all the zones but as time is limited I rarely play them now they have done it all. And its not exploring, its porting to area, running to Writ, and back to shrine to do another ten...

I'm all for slow play, do main quest, alliance, skyshards, lore books etc to level every toon but the randomness of the surveys when you have 20 of them, doesn't lead to much plan as you need to get them. Sure if I had 2 hours a day to play an no other goals id say otherwise.

Did you read? It's not about finding them, it's about the time it takes to run/port through all zones just to get your surveys from the last 1...3 weeks collected. Usually takes some hours of boring porting/running around...

This. I know where the locations are (add-ons make this even easier) but it's the fact if I get four surveys, or even worse have banked a weeks worth I will spend time porting around, running around, watching load screens to get my rewards.

The turn writs in anywhere was a huge QoL change because I can now do them entirely in the zone I am in without needing to go to Craglorn just to click the hand in boxes.

The fact that some surveys are not near the wayshrines adds to this issue as well. This is my current daily requirement if I get four surveys.

    Log in (loading screen).
Pick up and complete quest in Vivec (previously a load screen to visit craglorn)
Go to survey A (load screen & run)
Open guild, find someone in correct zone, port to survey B zone (load screen), use shrine to get to closest shrine, run to survey.
    Repeat above for survey C.
    Repeat above for survey D.

Do this multiple times a week and you're starting to get pretty sick of it. I want to get online, do my dailies in a short amount of time then get to actually playing the areas of the game I enjoy.

I do not want this, because of what would happen to Craglorn Survey nodes. I like getting nirn from those nodes, it means I don't have to spend my time farming for nirn.

Personally I would prefer an assistant or hireling npc that would fetch our mats from those maps. Even if it cost gold or gave back decreased mats... But not so decreased that it took away our CP bonus completely.

I'm all for having enjoyable reasons to visit places, if you look back after OneT I was the biggest advocate of being able to e joy all zones with reasons (quests, new bosses, etc) But when you have 20 writs from 15 different zones its not 'fun' or a good reason to visit the zones properly. It's in, run to location, run back shrine out and no one really has that much 'fun' doing it.

I reiterate this is from an explorer, never grinding, completer finisher who has loved the decent reasons to explore all zones - main quests, alliance, skyshards, lore books (all without add ON's) etc and these are all functional fun reasons to go to the zones.

But traveling around purely for writs as you have it all done is a bit of a time burn.

Its common sense that with the new changes you would chose the town that is best for you to complete and hand in your writs, but having survey maps bound to the zone where writs are handed in would not encourage this, it would encourage more and more traffic flowing into Belkarth over a longer duration with crafters of ALL levels "farming" for surveys from Craglorn because of the nIrn drops which are quite common in Craglorn surveys, at present i have 3 crafters who need to visit Belkarth once per day to hand in writs. I have 13 characters if i wanted to farm survey maps now (on console) i have to do them at their respective crafting level zones. If i knew that i could get Craglorn only maps from handing in daily writs from Belkarth its a no brainer that i (and everyone else) would take all 13 characters through Craglorn.

OP suggests that he/she is fine with the chance of nirn being removed from Craglorn survey maps, i can assure you that 99% of the player base would not feel like this, personally i would'nt be bothered either way as i have more than enough for my needs but this is not the case for everyone.

And it does have a lot to do with server load more people porting in at the same time is detrimental, it causes long loading screens, some which go on so long its quicker to relog and try later, sometimes poor rendering of assets if you do get in without too long a wait. You only have to look at the problems that New Life Festival caused with so many people hitting Eastmarch at the same time.

Wow a lot of people actually enjoy being inconvenienced why am I not surprised.

Fine, how about ZOS makes it so that the surveys have a 50% chance to drop for the zone you turn your writs in, and a 50% chance to drop for a random zone?

There, now both sides get a little bit of what they want.

The survey's being in all zones and located at random is a pain. The idea behind the change made sense, but how it was implemented seemed more to make doing writs more of a pain.

I posted on these forums asking for the ability to turn in writs everywhere. But I wouldnt want this.

Yes it takes time to gather the writs, but they stack, so theres no reason you cant let them pile up for weeks before going to get them. I give them all to my AD alt that I never actually play, she wears the cowards and jailbreaker sets along with the steed mundas, cp passives for quick harvest and improved stuff from chests. She also has 3/3 keen eye for all the crafts and the addon that shows the survey and trasure map locations on the map. It does take time to pick up writs, and rarely do I clear her bag of them, but when i take her out she gets way more than just the writs and its a good way to kill some time if I only have a few minutes to play.

I think a better solution would be to let us sell our writ rewards. So if you dont want to bother doing them you can sell them and use the gold to buy the materials you need. It would be similar to the master writs.

The reason was likely because a lot of people have writs at different levels and there was no reason to run all over the place to drop off something at a specific location when it could be dropped off anywhere.

Performance, even due to zoning in and out, was probably not even a consideration.
