Support wants me to throw out a game I already bought so I can re-buy it again.. for twice the cost

I bought the Imperial Edition Physical Collector's Edition. I tried to add it to my account. It failed with a completely non-descript error message. Support then gave me this gem:
The reason that you are unable to redeem the Imperial Edition code for ESOTU onto your account is because you already have a valid game code registered to your account. Since the Imperial Edition code you purchased is for the complete game, it must be applied to a brand new account. If you are interested in upgrading to the Imperial Edition on your current account, you simply need to purchase the Digital Imperial Edition Upgrade through the in-game Crown Store.

I already bought the Collector's Edition. I spent a BUTTLOAD of money on it. I'm now supposed to throw that in the trash, and buy it AGAIN directly from the crown store? Seriously?

This is ticket #171103-000398. Can someone who isn't an idiot please address my ticket? There has got to be a better way here. Let me at least trade in my code for something that'll work. I don't believe for a second that this issue should require me to spend even more money than I already have.

    It's funny that you say something like this when you didn't read up on anything about upgrading on your current account. The imperial upgrade has been in the crown store for a long time.
    I don't believe for a second that this issue should require me to spend even more money than I already have.

    If you already own and play the game why would you purchase another copy of the base game with additional content? You are talking about wasting money but you bought the game twice. A simple google search could have answered any of your concerns on this and YOU did not do that.

    On top of this, calling the person who is doing their job an idiot is just plain stupid. It isn't their fault you didn't know what was going to happen when you bought an additional copy of the game.

    1) All the information I found in previous forum posts said that this worked fine.
    2) Buying it in the crown store doesn't get you the physical add-ins.

    Perhaps. I would edit my post to be nicer if I could, because you make a valid point. But I'll also mention that after 5 or so support reps got involved, the situation is now fixed, and what I did is perfectly 100% allowed.
