Can Shadowscales be mages?

I apologize if an old topic, but I can't seem to find anything on this. I doubt it'd be impossible, but could it be possible for a Shadowscale to be a mage? I don't remember seeing any in Murkmire, during when helping the Shadowscales. Is there any lore or book in or out of game?

IIRC a Shadowscale is just an Argonian born under the sign of the Shadow who was raised and trained to be an assassin of the Dark Brotherhood, and the Dark Brotherhood has mage-assassins. So no reason a Shadowscale couldn't be a mage.
