as a self professed hater of dunmer and knowing they are my least favorite race in TES by a large margin I was not expecting great things from CWC, and the introduction NPC telling me I would forever be shamed and known as a coward started me off on a very low note.
expectation was meh, first impression was TERRRIBLE
however
the main two dunmer you interact with were great, they were nice, acted more like normal people, and never once talked down to you despite the fact the one was powerful enough to do just that, instead they were more impressed by what you did do or say and didn't follow it up with things like "that was good considering its you" or sarcastic crap.
there were a lot of interactions with all kinds of NPC's and some who might have done some bad things also did good things, it was nice to see grey area NPC's in the story instead of people that are snidely whiplash villains just to be villains.
the main quest filled its time with more interesting interactions and dialogue with interesting people or events rather then busy work, now you will never avoid all busy work in MMO or RPG stories but I much preferred CWC to some in the past, and having various ways to solve quests as well as points to use persuade and intimidate is always great.
(PS: the quest section that seemed inspired by liberty prime from fallout was really fun, I saw things going down and was like "things are about to get awesome.")
inclusion of obscure NPC's or events that we did in the main game were also awesome, and it was nice to see some of our old friends again, even if they do call you featherless *wink*
and having NPC's that were strong or interesting without being mary sues was nice (looking at you Naryu! -_- )
but above all
the conversation with Sotha Sil was one of the best in this game to date!
I was expecting another one of the tribunal (and I mean that in a negative connotation) but what I got was awesome, I went through every dialogue option (one twice) and it was a lot of fun, also the act of including the conversation section after things had settled down and in a different location was really nice, as you had time to finish up before setting off to have an enjoyable chat instead of still being in boss fight mode.
so in all, was very pleasantly surprised with this DLC, there are some nitpicks of a mechanical nature (some of the maps are difficult to navigate, lots of dallies all having a bunch of components to them gets tiresome) but from a story and NPC standpoint it was great and reminds me a bit of Orsinium (your best DLC thus far, including morrowind)
(PS: please make a larger realm of evergloom for us to travel around in, its by far one of my favorite settings in this game now)
