Visible Capes as Neck Accessories or Guild Tabards

Capes have probably been mentioned a lot. But I don't search that deep into the forums about things.

Anyway, would anyone think that having cape sets as an alternative to necklace set pieces or guild tabards is a good idea?

Can't see the harm in it, would make player's characters look more interesting and they'd be able to represent their guild and run sets all while looking cool. Could customise them the same way as you would a guild tabard or something via the dye menu or something?

Just a thought.

They have said the game engine can't handle capes.

For whatever reason the developers have said they can't render capes in the game in a way that would make us actually want one. Think of floating shoulder and hip pieces and hair styles that clip through armor and you get what the problems with a cape might be.
I have a character that could use a cape but I fear it would just be a stationary blotch chasing her around.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

    LOL

why can't the game engine handle a cape animation? Why don't they just add it and make it stiff like cardboard then? Just like the way character hair doesn't move?

They made the guild tabard bits that hang at your waist move, so why couldn't the make capes move?

Shields float literally 15ingamecm from your character's arm. Surely they could at least make an effort to make it look decent enough.

@Chrysa1is not to be rude, but this has been covered extensively. The Devs have flat out said it isn't going to happen. They tried capes while still in development and did not like the result. Sadly it is a dead issue.

I beleive they said the engine they're using can't do capes. Though they have some really interesting particle effects. I half-seriously wonder if they could make a believable cape using particle effects, which just don't render for people running low-end computers.

Check in your guilds to see if anyone owns the Breton Hero costume. Have them put it on and run/walk for you. This is why we don't have capes.

I would link the youtube of it, that I usually do for these threads, but it appears to have become unavailable.

Why cant the animators make shoulder and hip pads NOT FLOAT six inches from the body, and weapons that don't clip through armor?

    This^^^^.
They tried capes in early beta and again with the "Breton's Costume". As said, just look. ZoS admitted that due to coding and rendering issues they could not do capes/cloaks justice.

I propose "The Electrifying Cape Set".. A new set that you acquire when you first use your houses' electric clothes dryer. :*

The set shall be quite stylish with a cape that sticks to the back of your legs. It will make a mild crackle sound occasionally. It will have these qualities.

    2. x Max Magicka
    3. x Max Stamina
    4. x Health Recovery
    5. When an enemy is within 5 meters of you, there is a 10% chance that the enemy OR you will be zapped by a powerful bolt of static electricity, doing 100 shock damage and jolting the receiver of the static electricity bolt 5 meters forward.

    :p

    When someone mentioned shields...

There should be a system at some point where we could use guild tabard patterns on our shields.

I think the Dev's think everyone expects them to make super floppy, wave around everywhere capes like in neverwintr or DCuniverse. What they actually CAN do, is make a good old fashioned runescape cape. Not too stiff, not too floppy, and looks perfectly acceptable.

If that old browser game could run capes with no issues, there's zero excuses why eso can't do the same.

Some flappy things like the barbaric style medium belt will whoosh behind you as you run, and even sway as you shake your stuff.

Maybe it's too much to make a big cape, but the physics seems to be there already.
