I understand why there is no cross platform between the PC and the consoles. However, why is there no cross platform between Xbox1 and PS4? The hardware is almost the same and both use similar controllers.

im sure it would be possible, tho its not the hardware thats the problem its the developers of the different platforms

it could even be possible to make cross platforming between console-pc, that depens on the engine tho, i dont know much about it tho games like fortnite have done it ^^ something makes me believe eso engine arent really suited for a lot of stuff tho

Still a valid reason. So far as hardware reasons go, there have already been character transfers between PC and console, but only as a single time-limited option for those PC players who pre-ordered console versions. Although I've no idea how the console versions compare, I've no doubt that the attitude of the console platform providers is indeed the main reason for transfers between them not being accepted.

the actual reasons for no Cross platform is

We just don't want to go through the trouble.

SE is currently working on the XB1 version of FFXIV which will make it cross platformed on all systems, so it's not legal, hardware, or software.

    it's

/Dev: Guys maybe we should rethink this, that'a a lot of work....lets just tell them it's not possible or blame it on Sony or Microsoft.

This is the same reason patches always come out for console long after they are released for PC. It requires "negotiation" between Microsoft and Sony.

Thanks for helping me to understand my console brothers and sisters. (I am a PC user). While on the subject of consoles, do you think Nintendo Switch can run ESO if ZOS ever go that route. I mean if it plays Skyrim, which is a much heavier game than ESO is, why it can just play ESO?

While Bethesda can port and dump another version of Skyrim; I don't think that Nintendo has the base to support the cost of additional servers.
Plus while Skyrim may look better, it doesn't have near as many calculations per second to perform. Such as in dungeons, trials, and pvp.

At ESO launch in 2014, console release had to be delayed a year because MS/Sony couldnt agree on things with ZoS and each other.
Required Sub was dropped from ESO because 1 console said it would drop it's sub but the other wouldn't. To avoid console players from paying 2 subs, ESO dropped theirs and started the ESO+ system.
Updates take longer for consoles because they have to be approved by both console companies.
It's Microsoft & Sony politics. Not a ZoS conspiracy against console players.

I am just thinking of cross platform between the consoles, and leave the PC out. The KB&M and addons are too much advantage, but the both consoles together will be more fair in terms of game play.

I would not want to play cross platform with PC because they use add-ons that are pretty much cheats. PS4 I wouldn't mind, but not PC.

Has nothing to do with hardware, it would be trivial for them to communicate with a shared mega-server.

It's Sony and here is why, when they were working on cross platform with minecraft Sony said no because the xbox community is ugly towards each other so they wanted to protect their community from xbox. Now not sure if that was the actual reason or they were just hiding something else.

Good god... the servers hardlly function properly as is... imagine cross play... RIP.

Not to mention the clear unfair advantage in PVP of PC users having addons and consoles not... then also the complete market crash it would bring for all 3 systems as we all confusedly try to adjust to eachother.

No, no, no. Bad idea is bad.

Not really valid... several crossplaying games have released of late. Does't change that this wouldn't work for ESO for a plethora of other reasons.

A long time ago, Microsoft tested a cross platform game. Xbox and PC. PC players wiped the floor with the console peasants. Part of the reason there is no cross platform play is because of that. Other than that its politics, money, lots of extra coding and server issues with no real monetary incentive for the companies.

This is not true. (With the exception of Miats, which I wish ZoS would ban).
I run about 40+ add ons.
7-10 are to help with running my guild, Mass Mailings, roster modifications, etc.
10+ are QoL, Lorebooks, Map Destinations, Provisioning organizers, etc..
Several are for housing and homestead use..
Several are for UI enhancement, fonts, etc...
And the rest are for gear and quick slot management, gear set organizers, etc..
None of my 40 - 50 add ons can even slightly be considered cheating.
Add Ons are not "Cheats". They are just QoL tools...

Of late, it was not an option then ESO for consoles was under development.

It probably make patching a bit easier for ZoS so they are just happy.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

In this case it's explicitly a Sony reason. They don't want their players interacting with XBox players at all.

Microsoft will allow cross platform play now. Sony will allow multiplatform play, but only if there's no XBox players involved. (Used to be, they both had a hard line at, "nope, only ours and PC," and I seem to recall both used to restrict it to the point that you couldn't have cross platform content if the game released to the other console at all.)

But, no, this has never been a hardware limitation. It's strictly corporate politics.

Shadowrun? Yeah, PC players had an advantage, but were a tiny fraction of the playerbase as a whole.
