Clockwork city : changing traits

Hi everyone.

I admit I am a bit disappointed by what I heard about the new DLC's gimmick of changing traits of items.
I heard that in order to change a trait :
  • You DO NOT have to have the trait researched
  • you DO NOT need to have the trait stone
  • you CAN change a trait to nirn honed.
  • The transmutation stones are quick and easy to get

Is that really true?
If so, did no one get what an awful idea that is?

I mean, it's a double [snip] you ..

[Snip] you, traders ! The rare item you dropped are now worthless ! everyone and his dog can turn a well-fitted crap into a divine goodness.

And [snip] you, crafters ! You no longer have an exclusive trait, and it is now so easy to get any set in any trait that no one will ever need crafted gear anymore ! Plus, hey .. all the trait you researched? There was no need ! *troll dance*

Seriously? I know that most mmorpg despises the craft, but this is getting ridiculous.

Did they really do this? Or did I misundestand something?
As a crafter / trader, I'd really want to know it I just gotta find something else to do .

You need to know the trait. You need to have the trait stone. Yes you can even change stuff to Nirnhoned if you know it. They are not quick or easy to get.

    So, basically, I am over-reacting?
    Yeah, maybe, but I'm worried.

Quick and easy to get .. well, you get 3-30 of them when you get you first mail reward of the day, in Cyrodiil .. or so I heard. That's extremely easy : find a train, hop on, leach for a few mins, and get them mostly free.

For the other info, I heard players discussing it at length. Are you positively sure you need the trait and stone?

    AzraelKrieg,

Ok, thank you very much for the info.
Still a bad idea, but less so, then.
    Have a nice day.

    mb10,

Ah .. always a epic moment when a living embodiment of virtue and justice such as yourself comes down from heaven to smite an unholy devil such as I.

Truly, your sharps, but honnests words brought me back on the right path .. well .. they would, if you could expand on how a crafter / farmer selling items to peoples that doesn't want to wait (or doesn't want to farm) is "taking advantage" on people. You realize, do you, that researching trait is a passive process, and that playing a single minute a day would be enough to get them all under six month?

And concerning your personnal (and highly judgemental) attack, I probably spend more time working than you do.
So, your lesson .. I'd gladly tell you where it can be put, but let's not give the moderator more work ;)
    Have a nice day.

Before over-reacting, could always try reading the PTS notes or jumping on the PTS yourself to see.

    Just a thought.

Yes, but half the fun of playing a mmo is in the good, old-fashioned over-reaction ^^
But, hey .. you are right, yes, I should have done that.

Anyone who thinks that the new system removes the grind for desired traits is not thinking this through. The Grind is still there, and probably on average about the same amount of time and effort to get the item in the preferred trait either way.

About the only real benefit is those folks who go after Weapons from various sources as those are rarer drops to begin with, and the desired trait can be make them unicorns. But, it is still a grind to retrait one of those after the grind to get the desired weapon in the first place.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I get what you say about unicorn, but .. I do think that MMO should have those (unicorns, I mean).
I like the tought that a lucky bloke will drop a right traited item and make a fortune.
Oh, well .. there will be other things to chase, maybe.

    Wow. Just wow.
Devs finally listen to players about the awful RNG in this game by giving the opportunity to change traits for which you need stones aquired both in vet PVE content and in PvP without the need to excessively grind (you'll still need to do some grinding but you aren't restricted to a certain spot). And now there is someone clearly misinformed complaining about it. Wow.
You're already being corrected about the need of research knowledge, but you need 50 transmutation stones per transmutation. That's still quite a lot.
Rewards of the worthy geodes were altered this week to give between 4 and 25 stones.

Honnestly, now that I am informed, I'm still complaining, but less. That still looks like a bad idea, to me.
A less bad idea than I initially tought, but a bad one none the less.

I mean, an MMO gotta have a economy. if you do not want to buy items for a fortune or spend hours farming them .. have something crafted. That won't be the same set, maybe it will be a little less efficient (or maybe not), but it will be a lot cheaper and quicker.

But I admit I am biased .. my favorite aspect of every MMO i've played has always been crafting and commercing, so, well ..take my opinion with a grain of salt.

You really should read the patch notes more often. ESO does a great job with them.
    BASE GAME UPDATE

    Transmutation
A new way of altering your equipment is available in this update. Transmutation allows you to permanently change the trait of an item to one of your choosing! The requirements to utilize Transmutation is as follows: •Transmutation can only be done at a Transmute Station, which is a new service station found in the Brass Fortress. •Home furnishing versions of these stations may also be purchased for Writ Vouchers from Rolis Hlaalu the Master Writ Merchant.

•Transmutation requires Transmute Crystals, precious resources occasionally received for successfully completing Veteran PvE activities such as Pledges, Trials, and Arenas, and several PvP sources such as Rewards for the Worthy, Battleground end of match rewards, and AvA end of campaign rewards. Transmute Crystals are an account wide, capped currency which cannot be banked or traded.
•Transmutation requires having previously researched the desired trait.
    •Jewelry cannot be transmuted.

Good change. I like putting in time and effort for a specific weapon or armor piece with a specific trait, but when I run a dungeon over 200 times and can’t get the drop I need it becomes a bit obnoxious. It takes away from doing things I want to do. I can understand 50 times, heck maybe even 100, but RNG is so terrible, especially considering a dungeon has 3 different set drops, X amount of weapons that have 8 different possible trait, then X amount of armor with 8 traits.....yeah, I want to pull my hair out if I wasn’t already balding.
Hey everyone! Look! It's a signature!

One very good thing about retraiting is that it keeps original item ID after retraiting. That being said, when you retrait a precise staff into infused staff, it will keep the ID of a precise staff.

Why I like it? Because there is super annoying glitch with weapons from Maw of Lorkhaj. These are all supposed to have unique glowing effect, but thanks to glitch, only Sharpened, Precise and Defending ones glow. Other traits do have glowing effect only in character screen and not in game. But, if you retrait a weapon with one of the three mentioned traits into any other trait, the glowing effect is kept thanks to persistence of item ID after retraiting (tested on PTS, 100% works :-))

It is sad that we must find our own workarounds for bugs and glitches.

It is also sad that I have Moondancer lightning infused staff and I must waste one Moondancer lightning staff and 50 crystal just to make it glow like it is supposed to.

It's a brilliant change. I love it. It means that as you grind if you don't get the trait you want you can retrait it. You mention traders, but most of the stuff people will want to retrait is dungeon drops.

It won't change crafted gear at all. People will still need nine trait crafters, they'll still need gold mats. I actually wish they made it drop from the normal random daily. But I'm nearly 500 so I'll be fine for vet.

I stopped reading and started laughing at this point in the thread. Please let me know what zerg train you hopped on so I can come "join" you. lol ;)
