"An error has ocurred" - Since the DDOS

Everytime since that DDOS, I get stuck into the loading character screen:

Then I get booted to the login screen with that message:

q7ip8j25lmd1.png

I cannot play at all. I did some research with TCP View and got that one of the servers that the eso application tries to connect gives no response. Its happening for months now and I can only play through a VPN.

I tried to open a ticket but just got ignored since they blame my ISP, but I've called them many times and they always said everything is fine, also ESO is the only game i have problems connecting too.

Is it possible that my IP is blocked for ESO servers? I have dynamic IP on the subnet range 138.118.196.*, since I dont have any other solutions to this problem, I'm asking for help here again. Thanks.

Sorry for not being clear. I was talking about that last DDoS attack that happened, I think it was on Midyear Mayhem? Since then I cannot connect to the game without using some kind of VPN.

My guess would be you are in a geographical area that was found to be part of the DDoS attack and your IP range has been blocked.

Eh, well my country is known for having internet trolls (Brazil btw), but is there anything I can do aside from using a VPN? I'm pretty sure you're right, or at least very close to the truth. Ive been paying my ESO Plus and really like this game, would be a shame having to move on :'(

EDIT: Also @SirAndy , i've been having problems connecting to some VPN servers too, like I can connect to one located in Washington DC, but I cant connect to one in Miami, for example, and the VPN log says "DNS-Resolution failed". Is it possible that some node along the way blacklisted my subnet?

DNS lookup usually doesn't use any blacklists. What DNS server do you use?
I've had good luck with 8.8.8.8 from google, seems to work pretty much anywhere in the world i have been to (Not been to Brazil though).

I found that the quality of cheap/free VPNs can vary widely, so i'm not surprised that some give you trouble.
I use my own when i'm traveling, i have a dedicated hosted server in the US that runs my own VPN endpoint.
Not the cheapest solution but i'm in control of the system, which i like.

Well, I've tried letting my ISP :s handle the DNS server, then I switched to Google's, but the results are still the same.

I use some VPN with a free endpoint in Brazil but it has a limit of 500mb of data per month, I even altered the route table so that only ESO (destination 198.20.200.*) data goes through that interface but even then it eats kinda fast.

Having your own VPN is a very good thing, but I cant do that since I dont own any server in the USA :(

    Also, I have one update.

Today I got one ip on the range 138.118.198.*, and that subnet allowed me to connect normally.

@SirAndy , sorry to bother you, but do you know what I should do to remove this kind of IP block? I dont want to pay for a fixed IP just to play a game, the problem is clearly on the range 138.118.196.*.

And last time I contacted customer support I went over all of their silly tests just to be shut down with "contact your ISP". :'(

Again, i'm guessing here but ESO either has that range blacklisted themselves (in which case they could easily whitelist you) or they outsourced that to a 3rd party, in which case either ESO or you can request that your IP range be removed from the blacklist.
Of course, for you to do that, ESO would have to tell you who they are using for validation and even then, there is no guarantee that they would actually honor that request.

I had my fair share of dealings with some of those blacklist service providers and they're generally a royal pain in the arse to deal with.

    Yeah, I suspected that :(

Its a very tiny range it seems, since I can connect event without VPN as long as I get "lucky". I've opened a ticket to "Customer Blaming" again explaining the issue to be ignored again :|

I'm still battling with all the useless troubleshooting of the ESO Support Team, its like they dont understand the problem or dont care at all, or both.

EDIT: And my ticket got closed, the issue was ignored again and they said the only way for me is using a static IP outside that range AND paying extra to my ISP :(

Respond to the email again, that should reopen the ticket. :( That reply seems pretty fishy to me, there ares some really good Customer support people on their team, hopefully you nab one of them on your next attempt.
Watch me derp around playing ESO twitch.tv/tea_the_khajiit

Yeah, I've sent them a loong reply that I've paid for the game and cant connect for things that are out of my control etc and they told me they escalated the ticket to the "Advanced Team", so fingers crossed :#

Just got a response that they cant do anything and I have to get a static IP, really? That has to be the most useless customer support service ever! :'(
