Subleasing Guild Traders

Some players just don't want to join a guild in order to be able to sell a few items. Aside from the most successful, guilds often have less than the maximum 500 members, even when they have a Trader in one of the capital cities.

What I'm proposing is that guilds that have won a Trader have the option to sublease spots on that Trader if they have less than 500 members.

If enabled by the player guild the option to rent a spot would be shown by the NPC Guild Trader at their booth. The rental fee, set by each player guild would be a flat rate regardless if it's for the whole week or there are only a few hours left until reset.

For example a player guild secures a Trader in a prime location but they only have 480 members who pay 5k gold per week in dues. The guild GM decides to put 10 spots up for rent at 10k gold each and keep 10 spots to invite new members to the guild. By mid-week all ten rental spots are taken but 3 people have been removed from the guild and the GM decides to put 7 of the now 13 available spots up for rent. If all or those 7 spots are rented then the guild would only have 6 remaining spots to invite new members before the reset.

Once rented a guild membership spot is gone until the reset and cannot cancelled by the guild or used to add new members to the guild.

For those who rented a spot the time remaining on their listing(s)would be until the weekly Guild Trader reset, at which point any unsold items would be automatically cancelled and appear in their email as normal.

Items sold from rented spots should probably be kept separate from guild member sales in the guild history listing to make it easier for GMs to manage their trading activity.

As an aside from the above, there have been some posts about phantom guilds securing Traders, then disbanding and freeing up the Trader if the main guild was unsuccessful in obtaining a Trader for the week. ZOS could implement a system where if this happened the Trader would not go up for “sale” again if abandoned rather 500 spots at a flat rate of 500 gold would be available to rent using the same mechanic as above. This could also apply if a Trader remains available for more than 1 hour after the weekly reset.

As a second aside it would be helpful to have a join guild button on the NPC Trader welcome screen. This would have the guild info, weekly dues for trader access if any and an option to immediately join the guild and would be completely optional.

there are addons that do that...besides you ask zos to change traders? they should have implemented AwesomeGuildStore addon in the base game like 3 years ago...we are blessed on pc with something like this...but on consoles I find it excruciating to use guild stores...im so glad I don't play on consoles...still zos enjoy when others do stuff for them so they wont bother...cuz after all...free labor is always welcome.

You should just join a trade guild for 5k a week and not worry about it

You can already do that - just join the guild for some time, sell your stuff and leave. If you're a bad person you can even do that without paying requirements.

There are a lot of people who do not like the trading system as it is and I don't think this would make it any more palatable for them. The bidding and trading system has some issues but I think this would add to them.

I also think that guild masters and officers (of decently run guilds) have enough on their plate, and trying to manage something like this could just be the straw that breaks them. While it might not be compulsory to do this, some guilds would have members insisting their guilds do it to ease their own financial burden.

As an officer in a trade guild that has regularly been in a capital city...

Okay, we often have less than 500 members, but not that much under 500 thanks to advertisements and people looking for trade guilds. That's a good thing! We have new people coming in, we have people leaving when they find this isn't the guild for them, we have a steady core of plenty of solid sellers. New players have a trial period to let them find their feet in the guild before we start looking for minimum sales.

Here's my perspective. Why would I want to "rent" a member space to a player who doesn't want to join the guild but who just wants a selling spot? I would rather have that spot for a new member who understands the guild requirements and who can become a steady seller. Admittedly, I'm taking the long view where I'm betting that my long term profits from a new member will outweigh the short-term profit from these "renters" who don't want to join the guild but just want to sell some stuff.

I do like the idea of a "Join Guild" with a guild info and requirements button on the Guild Trader though.

This is one of the things that needs to be implemented. That and the AGS Interface for people perusing guilds. Would go a long way to curb some of the complaints of the current system.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

OP will answer I guess, but I think it's clear for more people.. No, maybe you don't want to rent that space. You won't be forced to. It's adding an option -other guild masters might want to make extra gold like that (for example, newer and smaller guilds) and players might be able to find a spot for a week. And as you explained - it probably wont' be a top spot, sure. I mean, I think the post quite clearly says that it will be up to GM to decide how many spots to put up for rent.

But people will still complain, I'm sure.

The Join a Guild option would be nice to see (I didn't get that far when I read the post the first time - my bad).

Just an insight here on 'temporary traders' taking up your spare guild slots. I've recently had one of my guilds finish a free trading week, where existing and new members could trade for free for the week.

One thing I notice was undercutting - people who are only there for a week trying to sell as much as they could while they had the chance. They were undercutting the existing guild member and market prices - we are talking 10, 15, 20% here - just to sell as much as they can while they are there.

I know there is always some competition between guild members on prices but I think it's wrong when someone, who has no interest in the long term future of the guild, starts hurting it's loyal members like that. I even saw one of the new members ask, in guild chat, what happens to his listed items when he left the guild at the end of the free week.

I understood that. Every guild will decide for itself.

Personally, I think that renting out spots to non-member renters is trading short term profit for a long term investment in more trading members. But, yeah, every guild is able to make their own economic decisions.

This system would, I think be more beneficial to new and smaller guilds by helping them raise extra money to compete with the larger and more established guilds. But the larger guilds could also benefit because current members of a guild who have a high number of items to sell could also rent a spot from their own guild to increase their listing inventory. As it stands now if you have more than 30 items to sell you have to join another guild or constantly monitor your inventory, I know on PC there are addons to make this easier but that’s not the case for console players.
